Hell Gate by Andrew P. Weston

The Angel Grislington is dead, effaced from existence during an epic battle with Daemon Grim that destroyed a Zion forged blade and one of Satan’s premier palaces in the process.
Chopin and Tesla have gone to ground. So much so, that they might as well be six feet under helping to push up hell-daisies.

Even Erra and the Sibitti, his living weapons of vengeance and destruction, seem reticent to show their faces.

Rioting sweeps the length and breadth of the underworld. Yet the halls of the Mortuary lie vacant, for someone is stealing soul-essence, the very means by which Satan condemns sinners to everlasting torment.

But who would do such a thing? And how does the hush that descends upon the dirty streets of latterday hell tie into ancient prophecy relating to the Reaper’s destiny?

It’s often calmest before the storm.

Just imagine how bad things will get with the apocalypse approaching.

Unlive – Die – Repeat.
Hell, the edge of all your tomorrows.

YOR THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE - 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION - BLU-RAY

YOR

THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE - 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION - BLU-RAY

It is before the dawn of time. Strange, savage beasts roam the earth, foraging for human flesh. Fierce tribesmen prey on the weak and innocent. Mystic sacrifices appease the gods. Yor (Reb BrownSpace Mutiny) is the mightiest warrior of his era. But his own past and true identity-are shrouded in the mists of time. He knows he doesn't belong in this world, but his only clues to the fleeting memories of his past are the gold medallion around his neck and the beautiful priestess held prisoner in a forbidden city. Armed to the teeth, Yor sets off on a quest, ready to blast away all manner of terrifying creatures along the way.

My Thoughts

I thought I had seen every corny 80s sci-fi/fantasy film, but somehow I missed this gem! Set before time as we know it, Yor is a hunky cave man who is the pride of his tribe. But he has no idea who his family are or where he came from. So he seeks the help of a beautiful priestess. Before he can talk to her, he must free her from captivity, which involves having to fight a a variety of strange creatures ranging from stone age monsters to futuristic robot-things.

This was a really awesome movie. It reminded me of a real-life version of He-man, one of my childhood favorites. If you are looking for great special effects, this may not be the movie for you. But if you love classics that require you to extend your imagination a little, you'll love this movie.  Having in on blu-ray gives the picture better quality than most of the older films I've watched on DVD. I'm so excited to have discovered this film, and I know I'll be watching it again and again.

My Thoughts

Anyone who enjoys a good horror flick will love this collection of cult classics that are now available on DVD. Releases range from 1954 to 1964, so you are getting a taste of two different decades. Each  movie has as sci-fi element as well as a little horror. The films came out great on DVD. Everything is so vivid. Even though they are corny, they are corny is the best way. The set includes five fantastic films:

Killer from Space -  A scientist disappears after a plane crash. When he doesn't remember what happened, he is injected with truth serum and reveals a horrifying alien abduction

Monster from a Prehistoric Planet - In this Japanese film, dinosaur-like creatures from another world are on the prowl.

Destroy all Planets - This is another Japaneses film where a flying turtle wants to destroy the world.

Attack of the Monsters - The giant turtle returns, along with something that has a knife-like nose. Two boys try to get away from them and a pair of pretty aliens who want to eat their brains.

Sound of Horror - Last but not least, an archaeologist in Greece releases a terrible dinosaur-like monster.

I just loved this DVD set. Each movie is a 5-star film that horror fans everywhere will appreciate.  Getting them all for one low price also makes this collection a great value for the money. Grab one for yourself at Mill Creek today.

Don't Miss Timeless on Monday Night

Timeless is quickly becoming one of my favorite new shows. I have always been obsessed with the idea of Time Travel. In addition, I love learning about history. This show gives you a good dose of sci-fi mixed with some real history, which makes for an exciting combination. In the show, a criminal steals a time machine in the hopes of changing history. An unlikely team that includes a scientist, a soldier, and a history professor are there to help correct the damage.  The first episode was about the  Hindenburg, and that is only the beginning of the historical events this team will try to preserve.

A few bloggers, including myself, were lucky enough to interview Abigail Spencer who plays Lucy, the history teacher. This mother of an eight-year-old boy is making headlines in her role, and it was exciting to get a chance to hear how she feels about the show and the character she portrays. She told us one of her favorite parts of the show is the fashion. It's lots of fun getting to dress up in clothing from a different decade or even a different century.  She's hoping to get to shoot a scene in the 1940s since she was always inspired by that particular era, especially since Hollywood was just beginning to take off.

Of course, being an actor does come with some challenges. Her career forces her to spend a lot of time away from her son. Luckily, she is able to keep up with his school activities online on ClassDojo which is a program many of us moms were familiar with. Because of her son, Abigail is very selective about the roles she chooses, but she knew with Timeless she had a winner. It's a show packed with intrigue and action, plus you can actually learn something about the past. There's also a potential relationship between Lucy and Wyatt Logan which could certainly steam things up.

Here is a little bit about the next episode airing on Monday.

“The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” airs Monday, October 10 at 10/9c on NBC

THE TEAM CAN SAVE THE LIFE OF ONE OF HISTORY’S GREATEST MEN.
Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter), and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) chase terrorist Garcia Flynn (Goran Višnjić) to the night of Lincoln’s assassination, where they’re horrified to learn that Flynn’s linked up with history’s most notorious assassin, John Wilkes Booth (guest star Kelly Blatz).  Putting aside a tragedy of her own, Lucy speculates that Flynn intends to send the fragile nation into chaos by making a bad thing worse, and a debate rages among the team: should they alter history if it means changing it for the better? Also starring Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit. Guest starring Neal Bledsoe, Michael Krebs, Terry Lewis and Lucia Frangione.

"Timeless" airs Mondays 10/9c on NBC. Make sure you don't  miss the next episode!

DVD Review : ELEVENTH HOUR

ELEVENTH HOUR (re-issue) – When science threatens humanity, one man is there to save it. Starring Patrick Stewart (X-MenStar Trek: The Next Generation) and Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty, Extras) and created by acclaimed sci-fi writer Stephen Gallagher (Doctor Who), Eleventh Hour offers four provocative, action-packed investigative thrillers set in the ever evolving world of contemporary science. With mysteries involving experimental human cloning, ruthless polluters and resurgent viruses, Eleventh Hour is a treat for lovers of the sci-fi, mystery and crime genres. (DVD 2-disc, 4 episodes, $29.99). Available on Acorn TV.

My Thoughts

What could be better than an exciting sci-fi series packed with action? A sci-fi series packed with action that stars Patrick Stewart, of course!  I just love Patrick Stewart in this role where he got to dabble in the science behind science fiction. Stewart plays Ian Hood, a professor who helps the British government . This season includes four fantastic episodes.

Resurrection -  A mass grave is discovered filled with deformed fetuses. Ian suspects it might be the site of a failed cloning experiment. They believe a surrogate's mother life may be on the line and set out to save her.

Containment - Old bodies are being exhumed when one of the workers comes down with a disease that seems like smallpox. The virus is mutating and must be contained before it leads to a pandemic.

Kryptos - One of Ian's old classmates believes the government is trying to sabotage his work on global warming.

Miracle - A child is miraculously healed and his father believes he was healed from a magical spring. Ian goes to investigate, but the water seems to make most people worse instead of better.

This was such a fantastic series. Of course, Patrick Stewart was brilliant, but the rest of the cast was wonderful as well. The story-lines keep you on the edge of your seat and make you wonder. I certainly hope to see this series continued for another season.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is coming home on Digital HD April 1 and Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5.

My Thoughts

My family has been waiting for this release and we couldn't be more excited about the Blu-ray/DVD/ Digital HD pack. This movie was just fantastic and everything I hoped it would be. Kylo Ren made for a great villain. He wasn't as disciplined as Darth Vader, which allowed for more raw emotion. Rey was a wonderful new addition. It's nice to see a women taking the lead, and Finn was just amazing. The idea of a Storm Trooper teaming up with the rebels was a original twist, and it was interesting getting a look into the lives of the troopers and their training. He had to be very strong to risk walking away from the job he was trained for since birth.

One of the best parts of this film is seeing most of the original cast reunited. I'm so glad they didn't hire younger actors to play these roles because that would've ruined the realism. No one can replace the originals. My favorite character is this film is Leia. She is proof of the strength of the female gender. Throughout the series, she has been through so much and lost almost everyone she cared about. Her home planet was even blown to pieces. Yet, she's still the only Skywalker who was never been tempted to the dark side. She is a great example of a real heroine,  and Carrie Fisher plays the part beautifully.

I don't want to give too much away as far as the story line, but be prepared for lots of adventures. There are great fight scenes and lots of chases. There are victories and some very bitter losses. The special effects are outstanding and the alien extras in the cast are an art-form all of their own.  In addition to the movie, this set includes some awesome bonus footage, including deleted scenes, interviews with the cast, behind the scenes info and so much more. This is definitely a movie everyone needs to have in their collection.

Be sure to grab a copy for yourself today. It's available now in store national or online at Amazon.

Eros Element by Cecilia Dominic -#Giveaway

Genre: steampunk/historical
Aether Psychics, Book 1
If love is the ivy, secrets are the poison.
After enduring heartbreak at the hands of a dishonest woman, Edward Bailey lives according to scientific principles of structure and predictability. Just the thought of stepping outside his strict routine raises his anxiety.
Adding to his discomfort is Iris McTavish, who appears at his school’s faculty meeting in place of her world-famous archeologist father. Worse, the two of them are to pose as Grand Tourists while they search for an element that will help harness the power of aether.
Iris jumps at the opportunity to prove her worth as a scholar—and avoid an unwanted marriage proposal—while hiding the truth of her father’s whereabouts. If her secret gets out, the house of McTavish will fall into ruin.
Quite unexpectedly, Edward and Iris discover a growing attraction as their journey takes them to Paris and Rome, where betrayal, blackmail and outright theft threaten to destroy what could be a revolutionary discovery—and break their hearts.
Warning: Allergen alert! This book was produced in a facility that handles copious amounts of wine, tea and baked goods. May contain one or more of the following: a spirited heroine, a quirky hero, clever banter, interesting facts both made-up and historical, and lots of secrets. It is, however, gluten free.
SORM excerpt The train slowed and rolled into a coal yard in a deserted area. Iris thought she saw some hints of blue in the gray-brown haze above the train, but she had no desire to go outside. Then she observed something very strange—the maid and the men who must be conducting and fueling the train walking around with long-handled hand-looking devices and looking on and under their cars. The men also had long-barreled steam rifles, which from the glow on the handles had been turned on and primed long enough ago to be ready for immediate use.“What are they doing?” Professor Bailey asked.
“I don’t know.” Iris tried to angle herself to get a closer look at the proceedings, but she bumped her head on the window and rubbed her forehead. A thunk and other sounds above her told her someone climbed on the roof and walked across it. The crack of a steam rifle made her jump.
“Are we under attack?” Iris asked at the same time Bledsoe sat straight and asked, “What the hell…?”
More rifle shots made them all duck and cower below the window line so as not to be easy targets. Iris found her head cradled against Professor Bailey’s chest, which felt broader and stronger than she had estimated.
“Miss McTavish, your hair is tickling my nose,” he said.
“Stop complaining or I shall poke you with one of the pins from Bledsoe’s friend.”
“That would be worse,” he agreed. “No telling what diseases an actress’s pins harbor.”
“I can hear you, you know,” Bledsoe grumbled from somewhere near Iris’s bustle, and she became aware of the weight of his head on her hip.
After about twenty minutes of awkward silence during which Iris heard people moving around outside and a few more shots, the train moved forward again. Something crunched under the wheels.
The maid, unencumbered by the clawed device, wheeled a lunch cart into the room, and her eyebrows raised when she caught sight of the three of them on the floor.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Miss, Professor and Maestro,” she said. “What are you doing on the floor? Do you need me to return later?”
“Certainly not.” Iris scrambled back onto the bench she had been sitting on, and the men did likewise. She narrowed her eyes at the maid, who looked like she tried not to laugh at them.
“What were you doing?” Iris asked. Both of the men looked at her, and she guessed they were irritated by her speaking first. It was bad enough her reputation would be at risk for traveling with the two of them unchaperoned, she didn’t need to be caught in any compromising positions. Therefore, she needed an explanation to put the situation in context.
“It’s the Clockmakers’ Guild, Miss,” the maid said. “They send little toys to crawl into Mister Cobb’s and other gentlemen’s trains to annoy them but also gather information. We take advantage of the stop for coal to clean ’em off.”
“How do they work?” Professor Bailey asked.
“Some of ’em have cylinders in them like player cylinders, but made of wax, that they transfer information on. It’s too complicated for me, but I’m sure Mister Cobb will be happy to explain on his airship. The blast from the steam rifles shuts them down, or we catch ’em with the claws and squeeze them out of shape so they can’t move anymore, and the train wheels grind them into uselessness.”

SORM About the Author
Cecilia Dominic wrote her first story when she was two years old and has always had a much more interesting life inside her head than outside of it. She became a clinical psychologist because she’s fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn’t stop writing fiction. The first draft of her dissertation, while not fiction, was still criticized by her major professor for being written in too entertaining a style. She made it through graduate school and got her PhD, started her own practice, and by day, she helps people cure their insomnia without using medication. By night, she blogs about wine and writes fiction she hopes will keep her readers turning the pages all night. Book Review - A Siren of The Dead by Rosa Sophia

Aldon never got anywhere on his good looks, at least not according to his late wife.

At forty-two, his only companion is a cat named Tilly, and he’s turned to drinking in his off-hours to quiet the discontent in his head. As a city cop, he carries a heavy weight on his shoulders. Though he’s troubled by his own problems, he never lets them get in the way of helping people.

Now he’s needed more than ever. When the daughter of a nobleman goes missing, Aldon is sent to an alien planet to retrieve her.

But there’s one catch. The woman he seeks is unique. She is a siren, and she can raise the dead.

My Thoughts

A Siren of the Dead is an exciting and face-paced adventure. There's a little bit of everything in this book--sci-fi, paranormal, mystery--all leading up a a thrilling inter-dimensional war. The story is set in a world much like our own, but there are a few big differences. One is that they have creatures known as sirens who are capable of raising the dead. When one of the sirens is abducted on another planet, Aldon is sent on a rescue mission that leads to some shocking revelations that could put his entire planet in jeopardy.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was an entirely unique take on zombies, and also had an exciting  sci-fi twist that totally blew my mind, but I won't give away any spoilers.  If you're looking for a book that's really different, The Siren of the Dead is a great choice. I've never read anything quite like it, and I'm excited to read the next installment.

As the only Natural remaining in the genetically engineered officer corps of the United Planet’s fleet, Henry Gallant has unique mental abilities that have proven essential to the defense against the Titan invaders. Nevertheless his fellow officers lack faith in him, and worse, he has angered prominent men by speaking truth to power. Despite this, Admiral Collingsworth has given him command of the Warrior, the most advanced stealth warship in the UP arsenal and ordered him to the alien’s main base to spy, intrigue, and disrupt their war capacity. Gallant’s mission leads to risky battles and painful choices, but no choice is more personal, or intimate, than the choice to face your own death. And for Henry Gallant—a flawed young man, in a hopeless situation, against overwhelming odds—a dreadful decision looms before him. He has only one saving grace—he is unafraid.

About the author: Elizabeth Lang is first and foremost, a geek with the obligatory love of science fiction and fantasy. She spent most of her life in the computer industry designing computer systems for world domination the mundane industry of life insurance, which is surprisingly, not as exciting as it sounds. Now she creates enchanted worlds of magic, explores the human condition in the light of future technology and civilizations, and dreams about world domination. Or at least, some of her characters do. Her first book, The Empire was fortunate enough to be a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards and she has never looked back.
