Our Review Policy & Meet the New Age Mama Review Team

CONTACT LAURA DELUCA at NEWAGEMAMABLOG@COMCAST.NET with all inquiries.

Our Review Policy

Our families would love to offer reviews and/or giveaways for any products for house and home, toys, games, clothing, baby products, movies, and more.  Its great to find  exciting new products and share them with our readers. Email us about your product and we will reply if we are interested. Please note we get over 5000 emails a day so not every email will receive a reply - only those we are interested in.

If your product is accepted, we ask for one month (30 days) from receipt of the product to post reviews. If there are special circumstances where you need the review posted sooner, please let us know in your pitch letter and we will try to accommodate you. A negotiated review post date sooner than the above-mentioned 30 days must be discussed with and approved by us PRIOR to sending the product.

We must receive a full size product or package in order to write a review. We will not review based on small one-time use samples because without a full testing supply we can not write an honest review. Please note that acceptance of a product does not guarantee a positive review. Also we do not return products that are sent for review. Anything you send to us is ours to keep. No exceptions.

For book reviews we require 90 days from receipt to post the review to allow for reading time. Children's picture books we ask for 30 days from receipt. We only accept print copies. No eBooks please.

For movies/DVD reviews we must receive a physical screener or copy of the DVD. We do not accept digital downloads.

MEET THE REVIEW TEAM

In September of 2010, New Age Mama was created by a very bored expecting mother who was on bed rest and desperately needed something to do. Five years later, it has grown into something I never imagined.  Recently, New Age Mama was ranked as one of the Top 50 Product Review Blogs in the USA on Cision, which was a pleasant and unexpected honor. Since then, I have literally been drowning in pitches. With four kids and my writing career taking off, I just don't have time to keep up with all the offers I receive, but I hate to have my awesome readers miss out on any of the great products and especially the giveaways out there! So, I have invited eight of my most trusted virtual friends to join the New Age Mama team to assist with reviews.  Ironically, I started out reviewing some of their products from their Etsy shops, Greenchild Creations, Sacred Secrets and The Sisters Elemental, but over the years, we have become really great friends. So without further ado, allow me to introduce the New Age Mama review Team.

Guest Post - Fairy Tales and Fantasy Offer Modern Happy Endings

The moral aspect of fairy tales may be lost on modern readers but the mystery, magic, and wonder are not. Fairy Fairy tale characters, creatures, and story elements are finding their way into modern fiction at an increasing rate. This trend is especially noticeable in young adult fiction, but can also be seen in books for a more mature audience.

Common Uses of Fairy Tale Elements

Some novels are a new twist on an old story. For example, Enchantment, by Orson Card, tells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the hero. The story is still set in days of old, but offers a completely new point of view, with its own brand of humor. Other authors elect to put a very modern spin on a traditional tale. Francesca Lia Block's The Rose and The Beast: Fairy Tales Retold puts the basic plot of old tales into the modern landscape, giving them a moral that relates to life today. These stories contain all the elements one would expect from a fairy tale including a moral lesson, a lady in distress, her rescuer, magical spells and mythical creatures.

Also currently popular are novels that exploit character types for fantasy lore, but create a story that is completely unique. For example, Unenchanted and Fairest, two novels by Chandra Hahn, follow the antics of Wilhimina Grimm, the great granddaughter of the brother's Grimm. She fights fairy tale creatures and survives her own, uniquely modern, version of fairy tales in a set of novels that follow a plot design all their own. Other novels borrow smaller fantasy elements, like the existence of mythical creatures only. Stories like Harry Potter, the Twilight Series, and the Torn trilogy all steal fantasy elements from tradition but create a story that is both unique and new.

Why Modern Fairy Tales are Popular

There are a variety of reasons people are turning to stories which include fairy tale and fantasy elements. First, there is something comforting and childlike in the familiarity of these stories. We like knowing that there is a happy ever after waiting for characters, we like the surprise that comes with magic. We are forever endeared to their basic traditional elements.

We like to spot the story. Like a mystery reader on the hunt for clues, readers of fiction based on fantasy and fairy tales, enjoy searching for borrowed elements. They identify monsters from Grimm, animals from Aesop, and heros from Anderson without skipping a beat. They are emotionally invested in characters and outcomes from the beginning because the reader aligns them with those characters who have gone before.

Finally, readers also love the twist. We are set up with certain expectations. When we realize that characters have been borrowed from a specific tale, we expect it to go a certain way. Authors use these expectations to make us anticipate the story, but then twist it so we are caught by surprise. It is this twist, the feeling of surprise when things don't go as planned, that keeps us returning again and again.

Ethan Allen Pays it Forward after Super Storm Sandy

A few weeks ago this Super Storm Sandy slammed the Jersey Shore.  Both my home and my family business are along the coastline, but somehow we managed to escape any serious damage. My home wasn't damaged at all and our restaurant had only minimal water damage. This is a real miracle when we are right across the street from the bay.  My family was very lucky, but so many others didn't fare as well.  Just a few hours away, towns were totally destroyed. Homes and livelihoods have been lost. But in the midst of all this tragedy, I have seen my local community pull together like never before. Firehouses and churches were literally overflowing with donations of food, clothes, toys, and more. We all try to do our part to help on a larger scale, but I also wanted to help on a smaller scale.

I know a young mother named Melissa. She works at one of he local libraries in our county. She brings the gift of reading to so many, which is a gift very close to my heart. She lives on one of the barrier islands and during the storm, she lost everything in her home. She lost her furniture, her kids toys, her appliances, and even her car. FEMA did help a little, but it was only enough to replace her car.

Our local community has reached out to her with many of the necessities, but with so many people in need, the larger items are hard to come by. As a blogger, I thought I might be able to help her situation. With a little help from Teri Hardy from Mom to Bed by 8 , I was able to reach out to a few of the larger companies and share Melissa's story.  Ethan Allen replied almost immediately. This is the response I received.

"I hope this email finds you well. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your efforts to assist those in need in your local community in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  Ethan Allen would love to donate a Paloma sofa to the mother who so generously volunteers her time at the local library. "

When I told Melissa, she was in the midst of painting and tearing up carpets. Hearing about this wonderful company who was willing to come to her aid in her time of need brightened her day and gave her hope when she needed it most. Thank you Ethan Allen! Thank you for generosity. Thank you for helping my community in our time of need! Thank you taking the time to read my email and to offer your help to this very special lady when you could have just hit the delete button! You have my business for life!

If you are in the market for new housewares, please consider Ethan Allen! They offer beautiful furniture, decor, and more that are high quality, stylish, and functional.  To see all they have to offer or to find a store near you, check out their website. You can also follow them on Pinterest or face book to keep with the latest news.  They are actually celebrating their 80th Anniversary this year, so stop by their face book page and wish them a Happy Anniversary! And stay tuned because Melissa has agreed to share photos of her new sofa as soon as its delivered!

Unfortunately, due to the fact that my "exclusive" discount code for  $1 personalized banner from Shindigz was swiped by some larger coupon sites without permission, this offer was been taken down.  The company received over 1000 orders in just a few hours, and they were just not prepared for this type of response.  But to make it up to my readers, they will be increasing the giveaway prize from $50 to $100.  So please head over here to enter the giveaway. Thanks and I appreciate your understanding.
