Ethan Allen Pays it Forward after Super Storm Sandy

A few weeks ago this Super Storm Sandy slammed the Jersey Shore.  Both my home and my family business are along the coastline, but somehow we managed to escape any serious damage. My home wasn't damaged at all and our restaurant had only minimal water damage. This is a real miracle when we are right across the street from the bay.  My family was very lucky, but so many others didn't fare as well.  Just a few hours away, towns were totally destroyed. Homes and livelihoods have been lost. But in the midst of all this tragedy, I have seen my local community pull together like never before. Firehouses and churches were literally overflowing with donations of food, clothes, toys, and more. We all try to do our part to help on a larger scale, but I also wanted to help on a smaller scale.

I know a young mother named Melissa. She works at one of he local libraries in our county. She brings the gift of reading to so many, which is a gift very close to my heart. She lives on one of the barrier islands and during the storm, she lost everything in her home. She lost her furniture, her kids toys, her appliances, and even her car. FEMA did help a little, but it was only enough to replace her car.

Our local community has reached out to her with many of the necessities, but with so many people in need, the larger items are hard to come by. As a blogger, I thought I might be able to help her situation. With a little help from Teri Hardy from Mom to Bed by 8 , I was able to reach out to a few of the larger companies and share Melissa's story.  Ethan Allen replied almost immediately. This is the response I received.

"I hope this email finds you well. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your efforts to assist those in need in your local community in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  Ethan Allen would love to donate a Paloma sofa to the mother who so generously volunteers her time at the local library. "

When I told Melissa, she was in the midst of painting and tearing up carpets. Hearing about this wonderful company who was willing to come to her aid in her time of need brightened her day and gave her hope when she needed it most. Thank you Ethan Allen! Thank you for generosity. Thank you for helping my community in our time of need! Thank you taking the time to read my email and to offer your help to this very special lady when you could have just hit the delete button! You have my business for life!
