Heart of a Thespian by Emma Kathryn

Abandoned in a strange town, orphan Tessa has nothing but her stunning looks to help her survive. She catches the eye of two very different men. Tony, star of the music hall stage, hideously deformed but somehow seductive, wants her to perform alongside him. Rich and handsome Riley, on the other hand, offers her a peaceful life with the gentry.
Tessa's choice leads to a scandalous career as a magician's assistant. But before too long, she realizes there is a sinister force behind the scenes. Something which could see her glorious new life ending in a bloody and gruesome final act. Which man is prepared to save her? As her fate hangs in the balance, Tessa will at last learn the meaning of love.

My Thoughts

In Heart of a Thespian, a young girl named Tessa finds herself alone in a seashore town.  At her lowest moment, a magician named Tony helps her find her way in a new town. Despite the scandal of being involved with a theatre person, Tess finds herself drawn to the handsome older man who always wears a mask. Then, another man named Riley stumbles upon Tess. Rich and handsome, he tries to woo her away from Tony. She's torn in two directions, and to add to the suspense, she finds herself in the midst of a mysterious theft. While Tessa's heart leans toward Tony, she worries about what people will think of her if she chooses a life on the stage. Will Tessa choose Tony or Riley? Will she get drawn in a crime? You'll have to read the book yourself to find out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel. As a fan of the Phantom of the Opera, its impossible not to draw a parallel between Tony and Erik, but make no mistake, this is not a retelling. This is a unique story line with a heroine who doesn't hide behind her skirts and a hero with debonair charm. I loved the tenderness Tessa shows Tony in regards to his deformity, but I also enjoyed the passion. Overall, this was a fantastic novel that provides a tender love story with a few steamy moments, and an accurate view of life on the stage in the Victorian era.

Toll the Bell: A Titanic Adventure by CP Bialois

Thomas Clayton is an assassin hired to kill his best friend. He can’t help but wonder if this is the one task he won’t be able to complete. Who could his friend have crossed this time anyway?

Born into wealth, Thomas spends most of his waking moments antagonizing those of his class, until a beautiful socialite crosses his path. She proves to be as much an enigma as himself. Their meeting seems innocent enough, but when he’s forced into service to kill his current target, dark and sinister complications arise.

He struggles to reclaim control over the situation. He needs to determine why his friend is in so deep while saving his own skin, all before the Titanic reaches New York.

My Thoughts

In Toll the Bell, Thomas Clayton is a hit man with a dark past given the impossible mission of killing his only friend. He's already struggling with the task, and things only get more complicated when he meets a woman. While he finds her tantalizing, there's also something suspicious about her. Unsure who he can trust, Clayton must unravel multiple mysteries before the ship reaches the port.

Toll the Bell is a amazing story that merges history and an exciting mystery. The elements of the crime are multi-layered and weave a tale of intrigue. The historical elements are well researched and will make you feel as if you are walking along the deck of the long lost ship. This is a story that crosses many genres and will please fans who enjoy historical novels, romances, and mysteries.

Elizabeth I & Her Enemies: Series 1

Presented by historians Dan Jones (Britain’s Bloody Crown) and Suzannah Lipscomb (Hidden Killers series), the fascinating docu-drama ELIZABETH I AND HER ENEMIES makes its DVD debut on November 27, 2018 from Athena, an RLJ Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. Dan Jones and Suzannah Lipscomb tell the strong tale of jealousy, treachery, ambition and tragedy of Queen Elizabeth I, from young princess to mature queen. With lavish dramatizations featuring Lily Cole (Snow White and the Huntsman) as Elizabeth and shocking revelations, this docu-drama series offers an intimate look into a formidable but often fragile reign. This DVD 1-Disc features 3 episodes ($34.99, Amazon.com). Elizabeth I and Her Enemies is also available on Acorn TV. Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), Acorn TV is North America’s most popular and largest streaming service focused on British and international television.

Queen Elizabeth I was one of England’s greatest monarchs, but she spent her life surrounded by enemies. Born in 1533 to King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth was declared illegitimate when her mother was beheaded after losing the king’s favor. Elizabeth fought hard for her crown—and even harder to keep it—as foreign powers, scheming nobles, and members of her own family sought to topple her. Surviving assassination attempts, rebellions, and accusations of treason, Elizabeth had to overcome numerous adversaries to become one of history’s most remarkable figures.

Presenters Dan Jones and Suzannah Lipscomb “do a sterling job” (Radio Times) as they tell this dramatic tale of jealousy, betrayal, and ambition, with Lily Cole portraying Elizabeth in the key clashes that shaped her life.

Street Date: November 27, 2018                                    SRP: $34.99
DVD 1-Disc: 6 episodes – Approx. 141 min. – SDH Subtitles – UPC 054961267996

My Thoughts

This series follows Queen Elizabeth the First and the constant trials she faced as she fought to obtain and keep her crown. From being declared illegitimate, to having Mary Queen of Scots contest her rule, Elizabeth faced a constant battle. This series takes us through assassination attempts, family betrayals, and much more. This first season has three episodes.

Battle for the Throne - Elizabeth is declared illegitimate after her mother is beheaded. Her father's last wife gets her restored to the succession. Her sister Mary accuses her of trying to usurp the throne.

Enemy Within - Elizabeth becomes queen at 25. Elizabeth is pressured to marry and her Catholic cousin Mary poses a threat.

Death of a Dynasty - Phillip II of Spain poses a threat to Elizabeth and Europe is torn apart by war. She defeats him but still has to battle old age.

I  have always been obsessed with the Tudor Dynasty. This series gives us a realistic look at the historical aspects of Elizabeth's reign. The sets and costumes are stunning, and the recreations make you feel like you stepped back in time. If you want to grab a copy of this DVD set, you can find it at Acorn Media or online at Amazon.

Don't Miss Timeless on Monday Night

Timeless is quickly becoming one of my favorite new shows. I have always been obsessed with the idea of Time Travel. In addition, I love learning about history. This show gives you a good dose of sci-fi mixed with some real history, which makes for an exciting combination. In the show, a criminal steals a time machine in the hopes of changing history. An unlikely team that includes a scientist, a soldier, and a history professor are there to help correct the damage.  The first episode was about the  Hindenburg, and that is only the beginning of the historical events this team will try to preserve.

A few bloggers, including myself, were lucky enough to interview Abigail Spencer who plays Lucy, the history teacher. This mother of an eight-year-old boy is making headlines in her role, and it was exciting to get a chance to hear how she feels about the show and the character she portrays. She told us one of her favorite parts of the show is the fashion. It's lots of fun getting to dress up in clothing from a different decade or even a different century.  She's hoping to get to shoot a scene in the 1940s since she was always inspired by that particular era, especially since Hollywood was just beginning to take off.

Of course, being an actor does come with some challenges. Her career forces her to spend a lot of time away from her son. Luckily, she is able to keep up with his school activities online on ClassDojo which is a program many of us moms were familiar with. Because of her son, Abigail is very selective about the roles she chooses, but she knew with Timeless she had a winner. It's a show packed with intrigue and action, plus you can actually learn something about the past. There's also a potential relationship between Lucy and Wyatt Logan which could certainly steam things up.

Here is a little bit about the next episode airing on Monday.

“The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” airs Monday, October 10 at 10/9c on NBC

THE TEAM CAN SAVE THE LIFE OF ONE OF HISTORY’S GREATEST MEN.
Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter), and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) chase terrorist Garcia Flynn (Goran Višnjić) to the night of Lincoln’s assassination, where they’re horrified to learn that Flynn’s linked up with history’s most notorious assassin, John Wilkes Booth (guest star Kelly Blatz).  Putting aside a tragedy of her own, Lucy speculates that Flynn intends to send the fragile nation into chaos by making a bad thing worse, and a debate rages among the team: should they alter history if it means changing it for the better? Also starring Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit. Guest starring Neal Bledsoe, Michael Krebs, Terry Lewis and Lucia Frangione.

"Timeless" airs Mondays 10/9c on NBC. Make sure you don't  miss the next episode!

DVD Review : JERICHO Series 1

“Satisfyingly set-up potboiler…cinematically epic” —Forbes

Acorn TV’s new British Western stars Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife, Wolf Hall, Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime) as Annie Quaintain, a widowed mother-of-two who is forced to start a new life in the remote town of Jericho in the rugged Yorkshire landscape. She is able to find a home for her family, but must also provide lodging for the rowdy railroad workers passing through. When handsome worker Johnny Jackson (Hans MathesonThe Tudors) shows up on her door, he brings with him a load of trouble that could threaten Annie’s new life. Love, loss, and intrigue abound in this British western set in 1870s Yorkshire. The atmospheric 8-part period drama co-stars Clarke Peters (The Wire) with guest star Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Game of Thrones) (3-disc set,. $59.99). Premiered and available on Acorn TV.

My Thoughts

Jericho is a exciting series set in  in Yorkshire in the 1870s. Annie is a widow forced to sell her home after her husband dies. She eventually sets up a lodging house in Jericho where she has to deal with some pretty shady characters. Everyone seems to have something to hide, and Annie doesn't always know who to trust. Just when she thinks she is going to have a fresh start, a serious crime jeopardizes her new path in life. This series includes eight great episodes. Here is a little about each one:

1- Annie heads to Culverdale Valley, but it's not an easy road.

2- Things already get wild and a detective is in search of someone trying to sabotage the new railway.

3- Racial tensions are fueled and a possible wedding of convenience could take place.

4- Annie struggles with her family affairs and the investigation continues.

5- Financial issues put a strain on the community.

6- A new quarry is needed but the location stirs more trouble.

7- A murder suspect is held in the tavern until his trial.

8 - Things are looking up for the viaduct and Annie's love life. A great end to the first season.
I really enjoyed this series. It was exciting and I love the rue historical elements. I definitely want to see Series 2!  The costumes and scenario were all very realistic, and the acting is suburb.  If you'd like to grab a copy of this fantastic series for yourself, you can find it online at Amazon or on Acorn Media.

Titanic The Complete Mini-Series Event on Blu-ray and DVD - #Giveaway

An Extraordinary Adventure. An All-Star Cast.
The Titanic sets sail on a collision course with destiny in this spellbinding epic adventure, featuring outstanding performances by Peter Gallagher, George C. Scott, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Eva Marie Saint, Tim Curry and Marilu Henner. Titanic melds together the heart-wrenching stories of people whose lives, loves, and fortunes were irrevocably changed the night of April 14, 1912.
The story begins in London, when a young pickpocket, Jaime Perse, steals his way onboard the Titanic. The cream of high society are gathering there, including society matron Hazel Foley, financier John Jacob Astor, self-made millionaire Wynn Park, and the infamous Molly Brown. But also on-board is Simon Doonan, a hard-bitten criminal determined to rob the first-class passengers and simultaneously destroy Jaime's last chance to start over.
THE TITANIC weaves a captivating mosaic of lives that will touch your heart forever. 1,523 men, women, and children perished the night the Titanic sailed into darkness. Only 705 passengers survived. Their tragic experience will grip your imagination. Their courage will capture your heart
My Thoughts
This is such a great mini-series. I have always been fascinated by the story of the Titanic. There are many versions of this story, but this one is pretty historically accurate. Many of the characters are based on real people including the famous "Unsickable" Molly Brown and John Jacob Aster. Some fictional characters are added for embellishment, but this doesn't take away from the emotions that are invoked when this ship downs down, taking so many innocent lives with it.
One of the main characters is Simon Doonan, a criminal who wanted to rob the first class passengers and who even stole his ticket onto the ship. He shows a different side when the drama goes down. There are also lots of big name actors in this series, including Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tim Curry. I just loved this series and I could watch it over and over again.

DVD Review: And Then There Were None

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE (DVD/Blu-ray debut) – "Surely the best Christie adaptation yet made for television" (The Times) and "TV event of the year" (Guardian) - The new BBC and Lifetime adaptation of Agatha Christie’s most successful book features an incredible cast: Aidan Turner (PoldarkThe Hobbit trilogy), Anna Maxwell Martin (Midwinter of the SpiritThe Bletchley Circle), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter films, Sleepy Hollow), Douglas Booth (Great Expectations), Maeve Dermody (Serangoon Road),Burn Gorman (TURN: Washington’s SpiesTorchwood), Toby Stephens (Black SailsJane Eyre), and Noah Taylor (Peaky BlindersGame of Thrones). The story follows a dinner party on an island where the guests start dying one by one. BBC Trailer and arrival on the island.

My Thoughts

And There There Were None is an exciting mystery inspired by the Agatha Christie novel of the same name.  Right before the start of WWII, ten strangers are invited to Soldier Island. They have nothing in common and have no idea who their host it, but before long, it becomes clear there are ominous intentions. The mini-series is broken down into three episodes.

1- Eight people make the journey to Soldier Island. We get a sneak peek into each of their backgrounds and their secrets. Not long after they arrive, someone is murdered. Soon the eight guests, along with the maid and the butler all find themselves suspects.

2- Every one is afraid they might be the next victim and no one knows who to trust. Some try to unearth the murderer and soon other secrets about the guests come to light, making them all look guiltier.  More people are killed.

3- There are only a handful of survivors and they are all terrified of each other. A shocking ending which I've read is true to the original book!

If you're a fan of Agatha Christie, you are going to love this adaption! The exciting mystery is thrilling, and the actors all did a fabulous job. The costumes are true to the time period, and the story-line will keep you on the edge of your seat.  I'm thinking about getting a copy of the book now. To grab a copy for yourself, be sure to visit Acorn Media or you can find it on Amazon.

Oubliette -- A Forgotten Little Place

Vanta M. Black's book, Oubliette—A Forgotten Little Place, is an exciting novel based on true events and historic legends.  The book is inspired by the real oubliette at Leap Castle, which is the considered the most-haunted castle in Ireland. In the 1920's, the remains of over 150 different bodies were discovered.  Black  used her imagination to weave the forgotten stories behind each soul who met their fate in the oubliette. This singular thought became the inspiration of the book. The  horror-thriller is set at a castle in the Loire Valley of France, and the author pulls from several poignant historical time periods including The French Revolution, the Reformation, the Black Death, the era of the Roman Empire, the time of the Pagans, and the period surrounding the height of the Knights Templar. There is even a modern story about two sisters who are hired to renovate the château.

Personal experiences with entities known as “shadow people” also motivated Black to pen the book. “These specters—I don’t know how else to explain them—tormented me at night. I assumed they were just bad dreams. Then someone else witnessed one hover above me as I slept. I don’t know what it was, but I speculated about the mysterious encounters while writing Oubliette.”

This fantastic novel spans several area of history and brings the reader hours of suspenseful entertainment.  To learn more about Oubliette -- A Forgotten Little Place or Vanta M Black, be sure to visit the author's website.

DVD Review: Restless

Nominated for numerous awards, the star-studded WWII spy thriller Restless debuts on DVD on November 10, 2015 from Acorn, an RLJ Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. Rising star Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s Agent Carter) plays Eva Delectorskaya in this adaptation of William Boyd’s novel. Switching between the 1970s and 1939, it recounts a young woman’s discovery that her mother was recruited to be a spy during WWII. Featuring an all-star cast including Rufus Sewell (The Man in High Castle, Zen, John Adams), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), and Michael Gambon (Harry Potter films), Restless immerses viewers in the mystery, deception, romance, and action of WWII. Originally broadcast on the U.K.’s BBC One and on the Sundance Channel in the U.S. in 2012, the miniseries also stars Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Broadchurch, Dexter), who was Emmy®-nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role, and Adrian Scarborough (The King’s Speech, Les Miserables). This DVD Single features two feature-length episodes ($34.99, AcornOnline.com). The miniseries is also available to watch at any time on Acorn TV, the premier streaming service for world class television from Britain and beyond at www.Acorn.TV.

Based on the bestselling spy novel by William Boyd and boasting a “fabulous British cast” (Los Angeles Times), this award-winning BBC drama is a tale of passion, duplicity, and betrayal. Ruth Gilmartin (Michelle Dockery) is stunned to learn that her mother, Sally (Charlotte Rampling), has been living a double life. Her real name is Eva Delectorskaya (Haley Atwell), she worked as a spy for the British Secret Service in the 1940s, and now someone is stalking her.

Rampling is “armed and dangerous and bewitching” (Salon) in a story that shifts back and forth in time between the 1970s and WWII. Eva is recruited by the suave, persuasive Lucas Romer (Rufus Sewell) and trained for a crucial mission. When things go terribly wrong, she is forced to go into hiding. Thirty years later, her cover blown, she turns to her daughter for help and faces her former spymaster, Romer, now Baron Mansfield of Hampton Cleeve (Michael Gambon). Will she ever feel safe again?

Street Date: November 10, 2015                                    SRP: $34.99                  SDH Subtitles

DVD Single: 2 feature-length episodes – Approx. 185 min. - UPC 0-54961-2427-9-5 / ISBN 978-1-62172-427-8

My Thoughts

Restless is an outstanding historical drama.  It's inspired by William Boyd's novel and is primarily set in Europe during WWII.  The show was a mini series that was broken down into two parts.  In the first part, it starts out with a hippie named Ruth who goes to visit her mother  and finds that she is terrified that someone is hiding in the woods.  She admits to having been a spy in her youth and asks her daughter to find her former partner Lucas Romer.  Ruth is given a journal about about her mother's life as Eva the spy. As she reads, we flash back to 1939 and watch the tale unfold.

Eva is never given weapons or formal training, but is used as a seductress.  She and Romer try to rescue a Dutch informant but he winds up getting executed when she is given the wrong password. Many similar episodes unfold including Eva being forced to witness a murder made to look like a suicide. There is also a little romance between Eva and Romer despite his arrogant attitude.

This was a great mini series that was shot on location in Europe. Costumes were beautiful and realistic of the time period and the actors all did a great job. Even the vehicles in the film are authentic and add to the realism. Anyone who enjoys historical drama, especially centered around WWII, is going to love this series.   To grab a copy for yourself, head over to Acorn Media or Amazon.

19 Days of Suffrage #Giveaway

Article by Tara.

Have any of you ever watched the TV show South Park? Remember the episode in which the kids had to vote for a new school mascot and it came down to either a giant douche or a turd sandwich?

Politics has gotten that way, for real. At work, in my personal life and family, I keep hearing things like,

"Both candidates stink."
"I don't want either one to win."
"I'm just not voting."
"It doesn't matter if I vote or not."

I can agree with the first two, but the last two get my dander up, especially if I hear a woman say that. If a man says it, I just tell them that if they don't vote, they have no right to complain. But if a woman says that to me, it leads to a scolding.

Do you have any idea what women went through to get the right to vote? The picketing, the arrests, the postcards, the lobbying, the arguing, the force feedings, the constant disappointments?

I think of women like Alice Paul, the Pankhurst family, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and all they went through and I just can't let them down. For us to refuse to vote makes their fight pointless. It's throwing rights away that our ancestors worked hard for. Imagine if women refused to be pilots, after all women like Amelia Earhart and Jackie Cochran and Nancy Love and the WASP did.

It's just wrong.

It makes their sacrifices for nothing. And I don't know about you all but I like to think my sacrifices mean something.

The movie Suffragette reveals just the tip of the iceburg of what some of the women went through to obtain the vote. Though it takes place in England and follows the militant movement, America was having the same battle.

Watch it, imagine yourself in her shoes, and then tell me you're going to throw away your right to vote. I dare you.

Now, time for a giveaway. One of the following prize packs will be sent to one winner. It includes a tote bag, booklet, poster, and bracelet.  To enter just fill out the giveaway tools  form below. Open to the US only. Giveaway will end  11/26/15. The winner will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to reply. Thanks again to the sponsor for offering this fantastic prize.

DVD Review : Miss Fisher’s Murders Mysteries, Series 3

Called “television at its most entertaining, stimulating best” (Philadelphia Inquirer) and  a “smart, slick mystery series…a female cross between The Saint and James Bond: unstoppable, unbeatable and unapologetic” (MediaPost), Miss Fisher’s Murders Mysteries, Series 3 debuts on DVD and Blu-ray on October 27th from Acorn.

Armed with a razor-sharp wit (and a ladylike pistol), Essie Davis (The Babadook, The Slap, Game of Thrones) returns for more stylish mysteries as the glamorous Miss Phryne Fisher, a lady detective in 1920s Australia with a fabulous sense of fun and a flair for solving crimes. These sharply written and gorgeously costumed episodes continue to find new fans in the U.S. through Acorn’s syndication to public television and home video releases. The DVD and Blu-ray are available upon request and include all 8 episodes of Series 3 plus behind-the-scenes featurettes, character clips, and Mr. Butler’s Drink of the Week.

My Thoughts

Miss Fisher is back! The flapper has a new series of murders to solve, eight of them to be exact, and she solves each one with her usual style and flair. That's eight hours of Miss Fisher complete with the sexy Inspector, his nice sidekick Collins (this young man is starting to grow on me!), and the prudish Dottie. And let's not forget the incredible historical setting of Melbourne Australia in the twenties and the immaculate costumes.  Here is a little about each episode:

Death Defying Feats - A magic trick goes terribly wrong when an assistant is guillotined on stage.

Murder and the Maiden - A body is found at the airbase and a airman is missing. Fisher runs into an old flame.

Murder and Mozzarella - An old woman is found covered in pasta sauce. Fisher must determine if it's related to the mafia or just a rival restaurant.

Blood and Money - A street kid asks Fisher to help him find his brother which leads to a string of murders of young boys.

Death and Hysteria- Someone gets electrocuted at a sanatorium and Fisher must determine if it was accidental or deliberate.

Death at the Grand - A hotel concierge is pushed from the roof with Fisher's purse in his hands. To make matters worse, her dad shows up on the scene.

Game, Set and Murder - When someone dies from a spider bite at a tennis tournament, Fisher  suspects murder.

Death Do Us Part - In the midst of several marriages there are also a few murders and someone is out to get the Fisher family.

Miss Fisher is a fantastic historical series and I can't wait to see where things go in Season 4. This set also included lots of bonus footage including Mr Butler’s Drink of the Week, a look behind the scenes, and  photos stills. If you'd like to grab a copy of this awesome series for yourself, it's available online at Acorn Media and on Amazon.

DVD Review : Thérèse Raquin

Based on the classic 1867 novel and play by French writer Émile Zola, Thérèse  Raquin arrives on DVD on October 20, 2015 from Acorn, an RLJ Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. Unfolding  against the backdrop of idyllic French countryside and gritty Parisian streets, this BAFTA award-winning miniseries tells the story of a young woman, Thérèse  (Kate Nelligan, The Prince of Tides, The Cider House Rules), unhappily married to her first cousin, Camille (Kenneth Cranham, Rome, Valkyrie, Maleficent). She begins a passionate affair with one of Camille’s friends, Laurent (Brian Cox, Braveheart, RED, The Bourne Supremacy). Thérèse and Laurent will go to any lengths to be together, but their actions may haunt them forever. The 1981 Masterpiece Theatre and BBC miniseries also stars Alan Rickman (Harry Potter series, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility), Mona Washbourne (My Fair Lady), and Jenny Galloway (About a Boy). This DVD single features three episodes ($39.99, AcornOnline.com). The miniseries is also available to watch at any time on Acorn TV, the premier streaming service for world class television from Britain and beyond at www.Acorn.TV. The DVD release coincides with a new adaptation of the novel on Broadway starring Keira Knightley and Judith Light.

Based on the infamous novel, Thérèse Raquin tells the story of a young woman (Kate Nelligan) who is bored with her mundane life and trapped in a marriage with her feebleminded cousin, Camille (Kenneth Cranham). When Camille brings home his childhood friend, Laurent (Brian Cox), the romantic chemistry between Thérèse and Laurent is undeniable. The two launch into a sultry affair filled with clandestine encounters and crimes of passion. What desperate measures are these lovers willing to take to ensure they can be together?

Street Date: October 20, 2015                                 SRP: $29.99

DVD Single: 3 episodes – Approx. 166 min. – SDH Subtitles

UPC 0-54961-2230-9-1                                              ISBN 978-1-62172-230-4

My Thoughts

Thérèse  Raquin is a mini series based on the classic 1867 novel.  Therese is a young woman who feels trapped in a humdrum lifestyle and who craves more from her life. She was forced to marry her first cousin Camille. She she doesn't love him or even like him very much. When Camille brings home his friend Laurent, sparks immediately start to fly between Laurent and Therese. They begin a steamy love affair, and the two will do anything to be together. Their love affair leads to crimes of passion that could ruin all their lives forever.

This is a fantastic mini series filled with scandal and great acting.  Both the costumes and the backdrops are beautiful and realistic of the time period. Thérèse  Raquin is a wonderful historical adaption, and after seeing the film, I definitely plan to pick up a copy of the book.  If you'd like to order a copy of this DVD for yourself, it is available online at Acorn Media and on Amazon.
