February Isn't the Only Time for Love and Relaxation! Music Review + Giveaway.

February is the month of love! We rush around for the perfect placement settings, gifts, candy, and flowers. Once Valentine's Day finally arrives, we are able to kick back and relax with our loved ones. Wouldn't it be great to harness that calming feeling and take it with you all year long? Well, there is a way we can do that! Through music! Music has been known to set the mood in any room, but also within us! It is a great tool for meditation, soothing your emotions, and assisting with better sleep. Out of all the genres in the world, nothing brings the positive energy like, New Age Music. This review and giveaway features new selections from today's top ambient/New Age musicians who are ready to share their passion for music with you!

My Thoughts:

Music has been my lifelong love. Whether I'm studying, working, meditating, or playing something to relax my art students and bring fourth creative expression, I always find myself leaning towards the genre of New Age. For a deep connection with the mind, body, and spirit, there is nothing better. Here are some of the newest must have albums for any New Age collector, as well as anyone who wants to bring more calming energy into their life:

Anaya: AONKI: Gateway of Love. Award winning Brazilian artist Anaya's new ablum, AONKI, was recorded from Brazil with a virtual symphony orchestra in the heart of Prague! Inspired by eternal love for her husband, her soaring compositions stir the soul with passionate melodies of timeless inspiration to awaken our heart's song. www.anayamusic.net

Neil Tatar: After the Rain. Neil's heartfelt and sensitive piano and guitar work will touch you in the deepest parts of your soul, and help you realize just how grand life can be at every age! Alternatively, melodic and rhythmic, the album offers a mix of profoundly introspective piano pieces and playful spirited guitar-driven works. www.neiltatar.com

Byron Metcalf and Jennifer Grais: They Were Here. They Were Here is a powerful collaboration between drummer, Byron Metcalf, and shamanic vocalist, Jennifer Grais. Inspired by their love for the majesty and magic of America's wild horses, the music is highly evocative and emotional - a mystical infusion of beauty and tenderness - of power and potency. Album Sampler Here! http://www.byronmetcalf.com/splashpage/

Fiona Joy: Signature - Synchronicity. Self love is, perhaps, the most difficult love of all to attain, which Fiona Joy explores in her critically - acclaimed album, Signature - Synchronicity. This is a gorgeous collection of instrumental piano tracks laced with ethereal layered vocals. The interaction between the piano and the soft vocalization is incredibly deft, and Joy brings her signature power, sensitivity and grace to each track. Heartbroken? You'll feel as if these cathartic songs were written especially for you. http://www.fionajoy.com/

Michael Whalen: Kiss the Quiet. The latest work of Michael Whalen has finally arrived. Kiss the Quiet, will guide you through a fantastic view of life and love, a musical journey that will have you feeling rejuvenated. As you listen to the powerful piano and ambiences created by Whalen in songs such as Full Moon Dance and My Obsequious Tear, you will be transported to the depths of your inner being. Take the time to meditate anytime, anywhere with this profound album. https://www.michaelwhalen.com/

All five titles bring fourth a unique and beautiful meditative, and listening experience. There is something for everyone in this bundle. Whether you love powerful vocals like the ones you will hear on They Were Here, and Signature - Synchronicity, or the deep bass and rhyme of an orchestra, guitars, and piano like within the albums Kiss the Quiet, After the Rain, and AONKI: Gateway of Love, you will adore being transported to a place of light. Keep the vibrations of love and relaxation going not just on Valentine's Day, but all year long! Let us connect with love all day, every day!

Like the original Stylophone, users can make quirky and original musical compositions by using the metal keyboard with either the stylus pen-shaped tool attached to the battery-operated model, or they can use their fingers to sound the notes.  In addition, the GEN X-1 comes with a 3.5 mm jack, allowing users to connect the instrument to headphones or other gadgets.
“Aside from the obvious fun factor, the GEN X-1’s versatility is its number one feature,” stated John Simpson, managing director, Dubreq. “It offers users of any musical background the chance to be creative and experiment with unusual mixes and melodies. Professional musicians also love the choice of sounds the GEN X-1 provides."
The original Stylophone shot to fame in the sixties when it was used by David Bowie in his track, “Space Oddity”.  Other professionals also saw the attraction of the portable synth as it became an iconic sound.  More recently, the Stylophone was featured in the latest Hollywood blockbuster, Baby Driver.

Simpson continued, “More and more young musicians are excited by the possibilities that technology offers them to make music. Many of them are looking for affordable and innovative instruments, which is one reason behind the rediscovery of the Stylophone and the development of our new GEN X-1.”

Bust a Jam with Rock-n-Stroller

Kids can be repetitive. They love playing the same song over and over, and that can drive parents crazy. If you've had enough of them singing about that dude who lives in a pineapple under the sea or if you've had your full of friendly monsters, Rock-n-Stroller might be just what you're looking for.  These fun CDs bring you a collection of family friendly songs from your generation. Each one is sung by the original artist, and will have you tapping your foot and traveling down memory lane. There are currently two CDs available that include the following tracks:

Rock-n-Stroller Volume I
  • 867-5309 / Jenny
  • Don't Stop
  • Into The Groove
  • Don't You Forget About Me
  • Take On Me
  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody
  • Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
  • De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
  • Start Me Up
  • Baby Love

Rock-n-Stroller Volume II
  • Boys of Summer
  • Sweet Child of Mine
  • Surfin’ USA
  • Dancing Queen
  • Rock this Town
  • I Love Rock & Roll
  • Heart of Rock & Roll
  • Here Comes the Sun
  • I’m Still Standing
  • We Belong

Even though my youngest just outgrew his stroller a few years ago, that hasn't stopped us from rocking around the neighborhood. These CDs are suitable for parents and kids of all ages. Even my teenagers loved them. We especially enjoy listening to them in my car. I've got the whole family singing these classics at the top of their lungs. One of my favorite parts about the  Rock-n-Stroller set is that you can actually get CDs. I'm an old fashioned 90's girl. Believe it or not, I still have a Walkman and a Boombox.  I love having the option of buying physical discs. Of course, for those of you who aren't technically challenged, the tracks are also available on iTunes and in MP3 format.

Personally, I'm hoping this two volumes are only the first in this series. I'd especially like to see a 90s edition.  If you'd like to grab this fantastic music for yourself, the Rock-n-Stroller Volume I and 2  are available for download on iTunes or on Amazon for $9.99 or $8.99 as a downloadable MP3.  For more information, visit www.rock-n-stroller.com.

Our Thoughts
I like to think I am an open-minded skeptic.  I figured, if nothing else, the Wholetones music should be, at the very least, a pleasant listening experience to some pretty music.  At the time I was just getting over a sinus issue so still had a bit of a stuffed up nose - nothing I couldn't deal with.  The very first time I listened to the Wholetones music samples provided on their website (cranked up with the speakers in front of me) - within a minute or two my sinuses began to drain.  And drain.  And drain.  They drained for two days with me saying, "what the heck?"  . . . I gotta give them credit, it's like their music helped the remainder of that sinus issue go away.

So of course, I was looking forward to reviewing their CD.  Wholetones sent me their Christmas (Vol. 1), which offers 7 songs at various frequencies, as well as a DVD of the making of the Christmas CD.

Song List:
396Hz ~ Little Drummer Boy
417Hz ~ I Saw Three Ships
444Hz ~ O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
528Hz ~ Carol of the Bells
639Hz ~ Angels We Have Heard on High
741Hz ~ Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
852Hz ~ Joy To The World

The accompanying DVD talks about each musician and the making of each song.  I did like that at the end of the DVD they talk about how the holidays can be filled with family stresses & tensions, and how they hope their music will help make the holidays more enjoyable for all.

While the Christmas music was quite nice, I do think it's important to note that I did not experience any of the physical effects that I did with their original music (and for that, I wish I could purchase just the DVD and not have to buy it in a set with a book).  I think my favorite holiday tune - not just on the CD, but overall, is Carol of the Bells, and I like it done a certain way.  For my taste, the Wholetones Christmas music CD is done a little too modern with electric guitar - I'm more of a fan of the old style music, something you'd hear back in the earlier centuries. I ended up giving the Christmas (Vol. 1) to my mom, who loves it and I know she'll listen to it over and over and enjoy it each time.

The Wholetones website is filled with testimonial after testimonial, as well as Michael's story of how Wholetones came about and the Key of David.  They do have a great guarantee - if your Wholetones CD gets scratched up - no matter how it happens, you just have to mail them your scratched CD; they'll send you a new one if you cover the return shipping which it typically quite low.

Holiday Gift Guide - Jazz Loves Disney #JAZZLOVESDISNEY

This is a sponsored post from Disney Music and One2One Network. All opinions are my own.

My children's father is a jazz musician, so they have always had a healthy appreciation for the genre, but it did seem like a dying art. Luckily, Disney is bringing Jazz back to a new generation with their fun new album, Jazz Loves Disney. They've taken some of their most popular classic jazz songs and added them onto on fabulous album.  The track list includes:

1.  Jamie Cullum – "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" – from The Aristocats
2.  Melody Gardot – "He’s A Tramp" – from Lady And The Tramp
3.  Stacey Kent – "Bibbidi Bobbodo Boo" (French version) – from Cinderella
4.  Gregory Porter – "When You Wish Upon A Star" – from Pinocchio
5.  China Moses – "Why Don’t You Do Right" – from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
6.  Raphaël Gualazzi – "I Wanna Be Like You" – from The Jungle Book
7.  The Rob Mounsey Orchestra – "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" – from Cinderella
8.  Hugh Coltman – "You’ve Got A Friend In Me" – from Toy Story
9.  Anne Sila – "Let It Go" – from Frozen
10.  Melody Gardot & Raphaël Gualazzi – "The Bare Necessities" – from The Jungle Book
11.  Laika – "Once Upon A Dream" – from Sleeping Beauty
12.  Nikki Yanofsky -"Someday My Prince Will Come" – from Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs
13. The Hot Sardines – I Wanna Be Like You (French & English version) – from The Jungle Book (US release only)

Many of the artists on this soundtrack were excited to see the songs making a comeback. Anne Sila has this to say about the new album:

"I’m lucky to be part of this beautiful album and honored to share it with artists I have admired for many years. Jazz represents a huge part of my musical path where I keep returning. Disney marked my childhood, like most children, but as an adult I still have a great taste for fairytales and imaginary. Being able to combine both in one album is fun and inspiring. The cherry on the cake was to revisit “let It go” which has been such a success the last few years. It’s a great way to discover those famous tracks and add fantasy and jazz to it. I’m proud to be part of it.”

I really loved this CD. Many of the songs were tunes I enjoyed myself as a child, and now I can enjoy them with my own children. Plus, there are some newer songs like,  "Let it Go" which is my daughter's all-time favorite. My personal favorite is, "He's a Tramp" followed closely by, "I Wanna Be Like You" since these two songs are from movies I watched when I was younger.  Want to grab a copy of this fun Album for yourself? You can find it now on both Amazon & iTunes.

Are Your Kids in the Band? Check Out Woodwind & Brasswind

Kids are back in school and activities are getting into full swing. This year, two of my children have joined the band. I have one playing the clarinet and one starting on the saxophone.  While I could rent instruments from the school, I just can't get past my germophobia. I don't want my children with their mouth on a instrument that's need passes around for years. I thought he expensive to get them their own instruments, but at Woodwind & Brasswind, they have affordable items suitable for beginners, but which will also grow with them as they excel. Here are just a few of the items that are perfect for students:

If you have a child in band and you want to get them an instrument they can carry through the years, visit Woodwind & Brasswind at  www.wwbw.com.

I think we'll be seeing one of these under the Christmas tree this year. Check out all the great guitar supplies at Guitar Center. #ThrowBack - My Days as a Violinist

When I was in elementary school, I wasn't just in the band, I WAS the band. I started playing the violin when I was in first grade, and I was something of a natural. I could play almost any song by ear after hearing it only once. My little Catholic school  had under 100 kids, so no one else was really able to play the way I did. This meant that I had to stand up in front of the entire school at every first Friday mass and play my violin in front of everyone.  I remember getting ready with my violin tuner, carefully checking that all the strings and pegs were correctly positioned. Then the organ would start and I was the only accompaniment. It was scary the first few times, but I was a natural performer. Eventually, I went on to playing at all the masses in front of hundreds of people on Sunday. I even got paid to play at weddings when I was still only eight years old. I continued to play at my local church until I had children and had to "retire". Those were the good old days. I haven't touched a bow in many years now, but it's a nice memory to look back on.

We’ve fine tuned the design for comfort and optimized the technology to produce premium sound.”

Trekz Titanium™ uses bone conduction technology to transmit audio waves to the inner ears through the skull, bypassing the eardrums completely. Place them on your cheekbones, just in front of your ears. This leaves your ear canals open, allowing you to remain alert and aware of ambient sounds while you enjoy your music. Bluetooth® connectivity gives you the ability to be free of wires and make and receive phone calls.

PremiumPitch+ Sound - Bone conduction audio has earned its bad reputation due to a blend of natural sound leakage and weak bass. PremiumPitch+™ technology optimizes the sound and includes additional features like LeakSlayer™ technology, which ensures music is directed exactly where it should be.

Titanium Frame: The backbone of the industrial design is a premium titanium frame, an element chosen not only for its strength and durability, but also for its infinite flexibility, which will deliver maximum comfort, portability and the very best sound.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely love music and listen to it often throughout the day. If I am doing chores, working out, taking a walk, or working, etc, I enjoy having my favorite tunes nearby. With the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium headphones, it allows me to listen to my favorite music without completely disconnecting from my surroundings.

As you can see from my picture, Trekz Titanium do not go directly in the ear, but on the side. Despite this fact, the sound quality is amazing! It is pure, seamless, and it includes powerful bass. You can feel the bass pumping as it plays, which is so cool. I was very impressed! The ability to make calls, the lasting power, and the durability were all huge pluses, as well as the headphones being sweat proof. Perfect for those that love to rock out as they workout, or may find themselves in harsh weather.

Besides the sound quality, I was impressed by the overall make of the headphones. They are stretchable, move easily, and yet stay attached to your head while you are wearing them. The people around me could hardly hear any music unless it was very loud. I could hear my surroundings, however. That really blew my mind. Trekz Titanium is powered by Bluetooth technology, so they are easy to pair with a mobile device. You can also adjust the sound on the right side, as well as turn them on or off on the left.

The only issue that I have found with them is that due to the sinus pressure I feel from having severe allergies, I cannot wear these for extended periods of time. However, wearing them throughout a daily task is something I truly enjoy! My family has also been using them as well. I will certainly continue to use Trekz Titanium and would highly recommend them!
