Product Review: Mother Dirt

Bacteria is good.

That's the message of this product line that I had the chance to try out. While people take probiotics to restore the good bacteria in our guts that we're coming to understand is crucial to our immune system and overall health, Mother Dirt is using those principles for hair and skin care.

The products use good bacteria, leaving out the harsh chemicals and other ingredients that are in most of the products out there. To learn more about the science, check this page from their website. You can also learn more about how it works here. I had the chance to try the shampoo, the cleanser, and the body mist.

So, how were they? Honestly, I am not particularly loyal to any one shampoo. I prefer to mix up it a bit from time to time, but the shampoo definitely seemed to do the job. I thought my hair looked nice as well. It just doesn't lather like I'm used to with other products, so that was a bit of a surprise and I kept feeling like I should use more.

The body mist was nice, as well. My skin felt nice after using it, which helps cut down on the need for extra moisturizers or body sprays.

The thing I was most impressed with was the cleanser. It definitely made a difference in the appearance and feel of my skin. My face felt clean, and appeared to look smoother. While I like all three, this is definitely the one I want to make a point of getting again.

In addition to furnishing products for review, Mother Dirt is offering a special discount code to anyone who is interested in trying these products themselves. Using the code Myblog25-GF29 at checkout will give a 25% discount as well as free shipping.

My Thoughts

I'm always curious about the various cleaning products out there that don't require one to use chemicals. So when I got the opportunity to give Force Of Nature a try, I was willing to. This came with one spray bottle, one bottle I made the mixture in, several more packets to make more solution. As well, the base that mixes it all together has a countdown on it.

The cleaner is only good for 14 days after it's mixed. It's tap water with their solution of white vinegar and salt. I'm not quite sure why it goes bad after 14 days and I'd like to learn a little more about why. The info that came with the kit didn't explain why. Just basics on how to make the solution.

It took about 10 minutes for the solution to be made and then it was ready to use. I poured it into the spray bottle and decided to give it a try on my counters and sink first. The sprayer works a little different. You press it in and it sprays automatically until the handle comes back up. It was nice, but took some getting used to.

I was impressed with this when it came to basic cleaning such as counters, tables, and even windows. It worked well on the litter box also when I tested it for getting rid of the smell. I did attempt to use it in my shower to clean it, but it didn't seem to work as well as my usually cleaner.

Back to it only being good for 14 days. I had half a bottle left when my 14 days were up and it was time to dump it out. I was disappointed that it didn't last longer and felt almost wasteful to be getting rid of it. I'd prefer to be able to make less cleaner at a time so I'm not wasting as much. Especially since you have to use their pre-made packets of vinegar and water.

Over all I did like this product and found it to be a really good cleaner and deodorizer.

Review: Kids 'N' Pets Instant All-Purpose Stain & Odor Remover Wipes

Paw prints. Finger prints. Food and drink smudges. In your house, stains and odors are more consistent than the delivery of the newspaper, often appearing out of thin air and trailing your kids and pets wherever they go. Our Thoughts
Kids 'N' Pets products are a staple in our household with a child and dog.  Although, it's mostly stains from the dogs over the years rather than the  one child.  Mostly. :) I do have one cream-colored upholstered chair I am rather fond of that has gotten fairly dirty over the years and I was contemplating the best way to go about cleaning it, especially the place where he-who-shall-not-be-named spilled his cappuccino on it.  Most of it was mopped up, but the hidden part was not. Seems there was plenty of dog hair and a piece of a chip down there too!

The wipes are meant to be pulled thru the small opening in the lid for maximum evaporation protection, but honestly I found it easier to just remove the lid entirely and take the wipes out from there.  There is no excess liquid in the container and due to that natural phenomenon called gravity, the wipes are much more saturated down at the bottom than they are at the top.  I found that to clean this old, dried cappuccino stain, I needed to use the saturated part first and scrub pretty hard.  It took 3 wipes for this area to come clean.  And I realized while scrubbing the best part about these wipes: they don't shred!

If you look closely at the top right of this photo you'll see a stain line I still need to clean up.  It's hard to judge when the fabric is wet with cleaner whether or not you've gotten it all.  It's easy enough to simply let it dry and tackle it again another day if you need to.

Since we somehow didn't happen to have any accidental spills in the duration of this review, I tackled some other older stains I'd been neglecting. The top front half as well as the vertical front part of the chair's cushion was dingy from years of use; I did find it harder to saturate, then scrub using just the wipes, so I grabbed my trusty spray container of Kids 'N' Pets (which I purchased at Walmart), sprayed the area, let it sit a few minutes, and used the thankfully non-shredding Kids 'N' Pets Wipes to clean it.  Again, it's a little hard to see if you got the area clean when the fabric is wet, so be sure to inspect it after it dries and see if you need to re-apply and clean some more.  The below photo is after the first round of cleaning.  I think I got it about 80% clean, but even still it's a huge improvement over looking at a plainly dingy chair!

Another item I attempted to clean was our couch.  With his sensory needs, our son always has his hands in his mouth and subsequently gets drool in the same 3 places on the couch thanks to his saturated hands.   Like the chair above, I sprayed the area first, let it sit, and then scrubbed with the wipes and was even more thankful for their non-shreddi-ness (is that even a word??). I went thru a pile of the wipes cleaning the couch.  That's a cleaning project I'll be repeating over the years until he can fulfill his sensory needs in a less-wet manner.

I also used the KIDS ‘N’ PETS Instant All-Purpose Stain & Odor Remover Wipes on our big front window - I figured the "cleaned" window would have smears, and it did, but that wasn't my concern.  Our son's wet hands are frequently in contact with the window which leads to a buildup of drool.  Glass cleaner can remove it, but it takes some scrubbing.  The wipes cut right thru the dried drool easy as pie and then I just finished up the window with a 50/50 vinegar/water solution to clear the smears.

The adorable, now house-trained puppy in the above photo is responsible for two small stains on the 8 year old carpet that I have as yet to be able to fully remove using Kids 'N' Pets nor any other carpet cleaner (actually there's 4 carpet stains, 2 of which were from a dog that spent a week here). Next time I attempt it, I'm going to take their suggestion from their "Spill It" Q&A on their Facebook page, where they recommend using a half or even a FULL bottle on one stain and letting it air dry.  I hadn't tried using near that much, so next time we're going on vacation, I'll dump a whole lot on the stains and they can air dry while we're gone.

Again, Kids 'N' Pets products are used often in this house - highly recommend!

We all love that fresh newborn baby scent. Now our homes can smell like one!
Air Wick has released a their new Familiar Favorites collection of home fragrances, with one of the scents being Baby Magic (The other two feature the mouth-watering aroma of fresh Cinnabon cinnamon rolls and the smell of fresh laundry with Snuggle’s Fresh Linen fabric softener).

Air Wick’s Familiar Favorites collection is available in stores now, in their Air Wick Scented Oil and Freshmatic Automatic Spray refills for $5.99.

Our Thoughts

This worked real fast! Having a house full of animals, I was happy to test this product out to see if it can cover that lingering "stench" of cats and dogs that always seems to stay around. I could smell this in about five minutes and it's been plugged in ever since. I have had it plugged in for about two weeks now and it's still 2/3 full and I have a refill to use as well. I am stocked up and ready to go for quite a while now.

It is kind of funny how it really does smell like a baby, and that is always a welcome scent, so fresh and clean! While I love the baby smell my husband is a sucker for fresh linen, so we'll definitely be trying out that scent next, and by then fall and winter will be around the corner just in time to test out the cinnamon scent!

Buy yours here with Air Wick's product finder and check them out on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter!

Review: Kids 'N' Pets Stain & Odor Remover

**Product was exchanged for a honest review.**

Back to school season is in full swing and you know what that means! Flu season is upon us. According to the government, up to 20% of people will get the flu this year.* That’s one in five people. And if you’re a family, that ends up being one plus your entire crew. As a precaution, people will stock up on hand sanitizers. And if they are like me, there will be hand sanitizers everywhere – when you walk in the door, in my purse, in the car, etc. The grandmas will have a hand sanitizer and so will everywhere my son goes: pre-K, the doctor, the play area, even the local kid-friendly coffee shop.

But as we all know, hand sanitizer is not enough. Someone will get the flu in our house and will throw up. Throw up is the worst.

And usually the first time it will come as a surprise and end up wherever the child is located. In bed, on the couch, last year it was in his car seat, resulting in a smell and stain that seems impossible to remove.

That’s why this year KIDS ‘N’ PETS Instant All Purpose Stain & Odor Remover is on a mission to become part of every mom’s flu season must-haves. Using a non-toxic, enzyme based formula, KIDS ‘N’ PETS is one of the only products of its kind that removes both stain and odor from any water-safe product.

Throw up in bed: strip the bed and add KIDS ‘N’ PETS in the laundry. While washing, saturate the spot on the mattress and let completely dry

Throw up in a car seat: remove the seat cover, pre-treat with KIDS ‘N’ PETS and put a splash in with your detergent

Throw up on your rug: saturate area with KIDS ‘N’ PETS. Blot to remove excess liquid and stain. Repeat if necessary. For larger areas consider the KIDS ‘N’ PETS 2X Pet Stain & Odor Carpet & Upholstery Concentrate rug cleaner

Let’s not even go to the other end of the flu mishaps.

In addition, here are a few of our favorite “Flu-sentials” for round ups on Flu Season Must-Haves.

· Clean Well Hand Sanitizer Spray Citrus

· Kiss My Face Foaming Hand Soaps

· The Best Rubber Gloves Ever

· Everyday Laundry Detergent

· The Best Resource for Entertaining Little Ones in Bed

Our Thoughts

We received the Kids 'N' Pets Instant All Purpose Stain & Odor Remover for review. I L-O-V-E this stuff! We had some old red stains that were in the carpet from the kids and their Kool-Aid drinks. Sprayed the remover on the spots, left for about 30 minutes, blotted up the floor. It worked slick! You can still see there was a stain there but we're planning on using the carpet cleaner when we clean the carpets and pre-treating the spots again. Quite honestly it took 95% of these REALLY old stains out of the carpet!

We have also used this to remove the stench that comes with cat urine. If you have ever smelled cat urine or have had a cat urinate on a carpet you know that the urine smell is really difficult to get out of anything. Two weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our old boy and we are still finding spots that he had urinated. With the Stain & Odor Remover we have been able to get the smell out of a lot of things that our stuff that our old 19-year-old cat had urinated on. This spray is coming in handy!
Anne, one of the other reviewers, says that she has purchased the same product and has used it to get icky kid poop messes out of her carpet when her son's diapers overflow. She loves it just as much as I do!

This is well worth the money to have on hand if you have kids or pets!!!
