A sensation on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre in the 1970's, this is the first adaptation of Winston Graham's novels, telling the spellbinding story of Captain Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis, The Good Soldier) and his ever-changing fortunes. Teeming with daring deeds and romance, all set against the spectacular backdrop of the ruggedly beautiful Cornish coast, this original production was voted by viewers as one of the best-loved series in the history of public television. Essential viewing for fans of the more recent Poldark series. 29 episodes, 8 DVDs, 25 hours, SDH.
My Thoughts
Poldark in an amazing historical series set in the late 1700s in Britain. No one is feeling very secure after the recent revolution in France, but life goes on in Cornwall. The Poldarks worry about their position as George Warleggen continues to prosper. Ross and Demelza attempt to repair damaged relationships, but a new arrival to the scene threatens to destroy the tentative peace. There are threats at home and war at their doorstep. The Poldarks worry they could lose everything they worked so hard for.
This is such a great historical series. The costumes and settings are all stunning and realistic. When you watch, you feel like you're stepping back in time. The ever-enfolding drama will also leave you hooked. There is love, feuds, and business cunning in every single episode. This DVD set would make a great gift for any moms who are fans of the show.
