My Thoughts

I think this is one of my favorite crime based shows. I love period drama, and I love learning about criminal investigations. This show combines both in a late 1890 - early 1900 setting. You'll learn how forensics experts solved the cases before they had the help of computers and DNA.  The cast of characters are funny, interesting, and diverse. This DVD set includes three fun holiday themed episodes.

A Merry Murdoch Christmas - The team attends a charity gala and they are looking forward to a night off. Of course, that's not how things turn out. Santa turns up dead! Actually, it's the host of the party dressed as Santa, but it's still pretty traumatic. While some believe there's a supernatural explanation, Murdoch and his team are ready to uncover the very human killer.

Once Upon a Murdoch Christmas -This one takes place on Christmas-Eve in Toronto. A train is sobbed, and it seems as though the culprit has magical abilities. He also seems to be modeling himself after a fictional character known as Jumping Jack.  As the thief targets additional businesses, the team struggle to find a culprit that seems to have jumped from the pages of a graphic novel.

Home For the Holidays- The team travels to Victoria to visit Murdoch's brother. They expect it to be a relaxing trip. Of course, that's not how things turn out. The team fins themselves in the midst of an murder on a excavation site. Back home, Crabtree and Higgins go our skiing.

I really enjoyed this holiday box set of Murdoch. It's gotten me in the mood for the Christmas season. If you want to check out this holiday DVD with a touch of murder and mayhem, be sure to pick up a copy from Acorn Media or Amazon

My daughter and I recently discovered (and marathoed) the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries as we're both lovers of period mysteries. I grew up on Sherlock Holmes, and introduced my girls to his works when they were still quite young. I heard about the Murdoch mysteries and am curious to see them. I haven't found a way to stream them and really don't want to pay for a DVD set of something I may not like. Eventually I'll get to see these and hopefully will like them enough to buy the series.
