Blu-ray Review: A Haunted House 2

The horror-movie genre gets a hilarious makeover when Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie series, White Chicks) and Cedric the Entertainer (Madagascar, The Original Kings of Comedy) star in A Haunted House 2, the outrageous supernatural comedy coming to Blu-ray Combo Pack including Blu-ray, DVD, & DIGITAL HD with UltraViolet on August 12, 2014, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The sequel to the box-office hit A Haunted House, A Haunted House 2 conjures up an otherworldly combination of bone-chilling suspense and no-holds-barred comedy for a raunchy and hysterically funny out-of-body experience.

Having overcome the demons of his past, Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) is ready to start over with his new girlfriend Megan (Jaime Pressly) and her two adorable kids, Wyatt (Steele Stebbins) and Becky (Ashley Rickards). When their house is plagued by a rash of bizarre paranormal events, Malcolm turns for help to his buddy Miguel (Gabriel Iglesias) and exorcist Father Williams (Cedric the Entertainer) in an attempt to drive the evil spirits from his home. But it turns out it’s not just the house that’s haunted…

My Thoughts

A Haunted House 2 is a fun spoof of some of the recent paranormal movies. In the movie, Malcolm has moved on from the ghostly horrors he experienced and is now married to Megan. He finds himself the stepfather of a moody teen who likes to carry around a wooden box and a little boy with an imaginary friend. While he hopes for a normal life, soon he's haunted all over again.  There is a possessed doll hanging around who becomes obsessed with him. They have an affair which leads to him having to call in the exorcists all over again.

Though I didn't get the opportunity to watch the  first film in the series, I had no trouble following along with this one. I enjoyed much of the slapstick humor, even though some of it is over the top. However, there were many things that seemed like a replay of other parody movies.  There are also a lot of references to drugs and sex, so this definitely isn't one you want to watch until after the kids are in bed. It's funny enough to make it worth watching once, but once will be enough.

When I first saw the title I thought it was a scary movie. It looks more like a comedy.

This movie sounds funny but I wasn't a big fan of the first one so I don't know if I would like this one or not.
