In Your Own Hands: New Hope for People with Chronic Medical Conditions: Mindfulness-Based Practices for Mastery and Wellbeing
Dr. Larry Berkelhammer, who lives with seven chronic illnesses, has made it his mission to help others live full lives in spite of these conditions. "In Your Own Hands" combines his personal experience with his past professional experience as a licensed psychotherapist and proposes an action-based approach toward changing the lives of those with chronic illness, giving them a valuable guide using science-based practices to truly take their lives into their own hands despite physical limitations.
My thoughts:
This book is an easy read and easy to understand book. Reading through the chapters of this book that you can and continue to be in charge of your own health. Each part of this book has chapters that are loaded with valuable information, research and suggestions. I found the questions at the end of each chapter very useful. There was even a writing exercise where I wrote values that were important to me.
Larry Berkelhammer, touches so many subjects for mindfulness well-being. Such as: What are you choosing. This was in Part III of this book. I actually read this two times. I actually have used this as a reference book. I have so much more knowledge of ways I can change myself to become more mindfulness since reading this book.
Would recommend this book to anyone who is living with a chronic illness, or anyone who has friends/relatives living with a chronic illness, than this is definitely a book you need to read.

I have several chronic conditions myself including Lupus, Fibro, RA, ITP, etc. It's hard to deal with at time. Esp the financial difficulty that it can put on your family. I hope I can find this book in the library! Thanks for the heads up!
