Creator of Domo Debuts Creative and Educational Komaneko eBook

Komaneko: The First Steps - the critically acclaimed animated short film from Tsuneo Goda, creator of the lovable pop culture sensation Domo - has been adapted in a new eBook that will charm, entertain, and educate kids in a truly innovative way.

Komaneko is a heartwarming and stunningly beautiful eBook and an educational tool that will show kids how to make their own stop-motion animations through a Movie Maker feature. The eBook also includes interactive content, personalization tools, games, and puzzles. Komaneko appeals to children of all ages and is now available on iTunes and Google Play for $3.99.

My Thoughts

Komaneko: The First Steps is a great app for kids that is both interactive and educational. There are several facets to the app. The first is an an adorable eBook which tells the story of Komaneko's adventures in film making. She writes a screenplay about two little kittens, makes puppets, and comes up with the perfect names. She experiences a few interruptions, like buzzing flies, that make filming hard, but she never gives up. Even when one of her kittens loses a button eye, she finds a solution. Later, after the movie is wrapped up and while Komaneko is sleeping, the dolls come to life and have some adventures of their own. As you read, the words light up so kids can follow along. You can also touch various pictures on the screen to hear the words spoken out loud.

There tons of different games to play that correspond to the story, including spotting the differences between images, puzzles, matching games, and missions, like finding Wink's missing eye. They are all simple games that won't be frustrating for younger children. You can also watch an animated version of the story book. There is so much to do, all of it educational, that this one app can keep pre-school children entertained for hours. My kids loved the cute story and the games. The dolls and puppet-like Komaneko really brought it to life for them.   I would recommend this app to anyone with preschool kids.
