The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries: Complete Collection DVD Review

***Complimentary product received in exchange for an honest review***

Hailed by critics as one of the finest mystery series ever filmed, The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries: Complete Collection arrives to DVD from Acorn on April 30, 2013.  Ian Carmichael (The Wind in the Willows) stars in the original BBC adaptations of the Dorothy L. Sayers crime thrillers as the ever aristocratic and always urbane Lord Peter Wimsey. Its success on PBS’s Masterpiece Theatre inspired the spin-off Mystery! Running at least three hours each, these dramas do full justice to Sayers’s vivid characters, trenchant wit, and lavish 1920s settings. The DVD 6-Disc boxed set includes all five feature-length mysteries, plus interviews with Ian Carmichael (38 min.) and more ($59.99, AcornOnline.com).

The Mysteries:
·         Clouds of Witness—Death hits close to home when Lord Peter’s future brother-in-law is murdered.
·         The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club—Two siblings die on the same day, leaving Wimsey to untangle who will inherit their fortune.
·         Murder Must Advertise—Lord Peter goes undercover at Pym’s Publicity to investigate the death of a copywriter.
·         Five Red Herrings—With six potential suspects, Wimsey must determine who murdered an unpopular artist.
·         The Nine Tailors—The detective stumbles upon a decades-old case involving stolen emeralds and unidentifiable corpses.

Bonus: Interviews with Ian Carmichael (38 min.), production notes, and biographies of Dorothy L. Sayers and Ian Carmichael

My Thoughts

I had never seen The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries before I received this set to review, but I think that its now one of my favorite crime based shows. I love period drama, and I love learning about criminal investigations. This show combines both in an early 1920's setting and is actually one of the first crime series ever made. These episodes are whodunits at their best. You'll learn how forensics excerpts solved the cases before they had the help of computers. Each episode brings you each of the best drama and mystery in realistic settings and with stunning period costumes. The cast of characters including priest, butlers English gentlemen of the highest caliber are funny, interesting and diverse.   Siblings, artists, and even Lord Peter's own future brother-in-law are murdered and Wimsey must do whatever it takes to bring the killer to justice. This series is definitely a refreshing switch from the norm.

If you want to get the advantage of a full set of amazing mysteries, than this is the box set for your. You can order The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries: Complete Collection DVD  at Acorn Media for only $59.99.
