Morning Break Taste Test — Mexican Dark Roast

Today on our morning break, Heather and I cracked open the Mexican Dark Roast, and the first thing we noticed was how pretty the can is. Sleek, bold, with a great aesthetic. When we poured it over ice, the color was gorgeous ; deep, dark, and rich, exactly what you want from a strong cold brew.

This one is perfect for anyone who loves a really strong coffee. It’s not sweetened, so if you’re a black‑coffee person, it’s ready to go straight from the can. I’ll drink coffee in literally any form, so I thought it was delicious as is. Heather, on the other hand, preferred it after adding cream and sugar. Either way, it delivers the caffeine punch you need to survive a workday.

My Thoughts

Central Park Coffee fresh roasted, with a deep, dark roast that will leave your mouth watering. You can tell as soon as you open the bag that this will be a great cup of coffee. It was like getting a professional drink without the big price tag.  Did you ever open a bag of coffee and you just knew it was going to be excellent because it smelled so fresh and delicious? I couldn't stop breathing in that amazing scent. I could tell by the dark color and texture of the ground beans that it was fresh and newly roasted. I watched it brew, feeling my mouth water as I waited. I wasn't disappointed. Each flavor was smooth, not bitter at all, and super strong without being overpowering. It definitely gives me the extra caffeine jolt I need to get started in the morning. Literally, one of the best pots of coffee I've ever made at home.

There is a lot to be said about Fire Department Coffee. All of their coffee is made in small batches and is roasted to the order. This is also a veteran-owned company run by firefighters and first responders. This company has a great mission in their Fire Department Coffee Foundation that was set up in order to help fellow first responders that have been injured on the job, have mental or physical health challenges, or are facing other serious health challenges. Being that my hubby is a first responder, and that we LOVE the Original Medium Roast Fire Department Coffee, this is something that is pretty near and dear to my heart. Fire Department Coffee was very generous sending both the Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee and the Vanilla Bean Bourbon Infused Coffee for us to try out and review. 

I'm not usually a person who enjoys flavored coffees. I usually prefer to stay within the limits of "normal" coffee because I enjoy the taste of it best. That being said, I put my brave face on and brewed my first carafe of Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee this past weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to find that while there was the hint of Irish Whiskey, this coffee was pleasantly flavored and not too strong in the taste of the Irish Whiskey. It was throughly enjoyable and I went back for a second cup! The subtlety of the whiskey along with the toffee, vanilla, and butterscotch made for a wonderful morning drink that I absolutely did not need to add any creamer to. This is one coffee that I will drink straight up black and enjoy time and time again! I am looking forward to my morning coffee on St. Paddy's Day when I'll be using the non-alcoholic Irish Coffee recipe to get my morning started! 

The second choice of coffee that Fire Department Coffee sent was the Vanilla Bean Bourbon Infused. This coffee also did not disappoint. It smelled amazing in the bag and while brewing. Again, like the Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee, the Vanilla Bean Bourbon Infused did not disappoint! This is another coffee that I will gladly drink black. The hint of vanilla bean and bourbon were amazing and made me go get another cup of this brew, too! 

All in all, if you enjoy coffee in any way, I recommend going and checking out Fire Department Coffee. They have a flavor coffee for everyone! This company not only stands out for the coffee that it is producing, but also that they include their coffee stickers in every box shipped. I have to have my coffee. I just can't get started in the morning without it. I used to get coffee from a coffee house every morning. Now that I'm a stay at home mom, I have to brew my own.  Its not easy to get a decent cup of coffee at home.  Store bought usually tastes like water or mud. Melitta - Heritage Series Pour-Over Coffeemaker Review

 

The official National Coffee Day is September 29^th. Everyday is coffee day for me. My brand of choice is Melitta! Melitta is on a pursuit for better coffee. 

I have been a multiple cup coffee drinker for many years. I have tried several different methods of brewing from drip to single brewers, to French presses and …gasp instant coffee. I can honestly say this is my first ever Pour-Over Coffeemaker. 

I mostly drink decaf because I drink it all day long. The Melitta Classic Decaf is the best I have found. I buy it by the case! Making a cup in the Heritage Series Pour-Over Coffeemaker satisfies just as much as my drip machine. I like the boldness in the pour-over flavor. I can adjust the strength by the amount of grounds I use, but I chose to make it strong. The cone filter sits inside while placing the porcelain basket over the included porcelain carafe. Simply add the grounds and you are ready to brew. The suggestion is to use hot water just under boiling. When the water is ready, slowly pour it over the grounds. I have seen special water kettles with longer spouts made for pour-over brewing, I will have to acquire one of those since I really enjoyed this pour-over method. For now, my whistling kettle worked okay. The dripping begins allowing the fragrant coffee aroma to linger. The porcelain serving carafe is holding the deep rich brew. It holds 20 ounces which is two large cups for me, so adjust the grounds you need to taste! 

The Pour-Over Coffeemaker is ideal for an anytime small amount of coffee rather than making a full pot. The cleanup is a breeze as the coffeemaker is top rack dishwasher safe. The looks of the Heritage set is classy with the Melitta logo engraved on the lovely yellow color. It is a wonderful addition to any kitchen for anyone who enjoys coffee! 

Melitta wants you to have better coffee no matter which method you use. Here are some tips courtesy of Melitta:

1.       Buy coffee weekly or bi-monthly. Once opened, ground coffee begins to stale in about 24 hours. To slow this process, store coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place.

2.       For the fullest flavor, buy (or grind your own) extra fine grind coffee. When using finer grinds, it’s possible to use less coffee due to higher extraction levels. We recommend 2 level teaspoons per 6 ounces of water.

3.       Use paper filters to effectively trap bitter sediments. Cone shaped filters allow for full saturation of the grounds, but all good, quality paper will ultimately enhance the final cup.

4.       Drink coffee as soon as possible after brewing. If left on a burner, the coffee will continue to cook and starts to degrade in as little as 20 minutes.

5.       For the single-serve coffee drinker, never sacrifice flavor and quality for convenience. Be sure to buy eco-friendly, as well.
