From Emmy® and Academy Award® Winning Writer Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”, Best Original Screenplay Gosford Park), and recently renewed for a second season by HBO, The Gilded Age the Complete First Season takes place during a period of immense economic change, of huge fortunes made and lost, and the rise of disparity between old money and new. A wide-eyed young scion of a conservative family, Marian, embarks on a mission to infiltrate the wealthy neighboring clan of her aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook, dominated by ruthless railroad tycoon George Russell and his ambitious wife, Bertha, meeting new people like aspiring writer Peggy Scott, along the way. In this exciting new world that is on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?
The Gilded Age boasts a star-studded cast with HBO's Cynthia Nixon (“Sex and the City”), Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers”), Morgan Spector (“Boardwalk Empire”), and Jeanne Tripplehorn (“Big Love). Other notable cast members include Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!), Denée Benton (“unREAL”), Louisa Jacobson (“Gone Hollywood”), Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story”), Blake Ritson (The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard), Simon Jones (“Downton Abbey”), and Harry Richardson (“Poldark”).

Other executive producers include Gareth Neame (“Downton Abbey”), David Crockett (Captive State), Michael Engler (“Downton Abbey”) and Salli Richardson-Whitfield (“Teachers”) – both for directing and executive producing. My Thoughts
The Gilded Age is a historical drama set in the late 1800s. It centers around a girl named Marion goes to stay with her aunts in wealthy neighborhood. While the city is run by a railroad tycoon, Marion meets lots of interesting people including a female writer struggling to break into a man's world. This first season includes nine exciting episodes.
Never the New-Marion goes to stay with her aunts while the new neighbors try to enter New York Society.
Money Isn't Everything - Peggy looks for legal advice, a new man in town named Tom catches Marion's eye, and a charity bazaar is steeped in drama.
Face the Music - The railroad station runs into some trouble and Marion courts Tom despite many warnings
A Long Ladder - After tragedy strikes, George agrees to help Berta
Charity Has Two Functions - Several ladies go to hear Clara Barton give a speech and Gladys has her sights set on a certain fella
Heads Have Rolled for Less - George tries to save his reputation and Armstrong is campaigning against Peggy.
Irresistible Change - Bannister is plotting revenge and some characters are introduced to electricity for the first time.
Tucked Up in Newport - Bertha gets put in her place and George goes to court
Let the Tournament Begin - Marion's aunts try to spot her from making a bad decision
This is a fabulous series that really brings history to life. The sets are costumes are authentic to the era and the storyline is fast paced. I'm definitely excited to see what the second season has to offer. If you want to grab the full DVD set of season 1 for yourself, you can find it online at Amazon or in stores nationwide.
