Storm Boy Review & #Giveaway
A beautiful and contemporary retelling of Colin Thiele's classic Australian tale. 'Storm Boy' has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingleystarts to see images from his past that he can't explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives. Based on the beloved book, Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.
My Thoughts
Storm Boy is the tale of a little boy who lives on a small island in Australia where there aren't many other people. He discovers a small flock of abandoned pelicans who help ease his loneliness. After caring for them for months, he gets very attached and doesn't want to let them go. His fisherman father doesn't understand why he cares so much about the birds which leads to conflicts between the two of them.
As someone who lives my the ocean myself, I really related to this firm. Seeing a child care for the pelicans and raise them was really beautiful. The film really displays the magic of nature and shows us how animals, including birds, understand more than we think. The conflict between him and his father adds another layer of emotion, and the resolution leads to a touching finale. This is a wonderful film to watch with your family, especially since it is Dove approved. It has an interesting story line and a real moral that helps children understand the beauty of nature and all that is at stake as we continue to destroy our oceans.
