Try plant based foods for Labor Day - Review

Maybe you are having a Labor Day picnic or a friends and family get together. Have you considered trying plant based foods? Perhaps there is a vegan in your social circles. This Labor Day, try something new. The foods from Atlantic Natural Foods are plant based and quite tasty.

Neat is a plant based protein product. It comes in a variety of mixes used for cooking and baking. For my review, a package of Neat Original Mix and a package of Neat Egg was provided. The Neat Original Mix is a healthy replacement for meat. It is 100% vegan made without soy or gluten. It comes as a powder that is mixed with water. The entire pack takes 1/2 cup water to make 4 servings of Neat product. I made it as burgers.  The mix looks appetizing with a deep rich reddish brown color. To make a burger patty, take a generous scoop and press it flat in a skillet. It cooks fast in about 6 minutes total time. The texture came out a little crispier on the outside with a softer cooked inside. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the flavor! It had a good blend of spices. The texture not exactly like a burger, but I thought it was pretty good. A little softer than a cooked beef patty, once it was dressed up with condiments, it was amazingly good. Neat Original Mix can also be made as a crumble.

Neat Egg - an easy to mix egg replacement. This is used more for cooking and baking and not meant to be eaten as a stand alone egg. Mix 1 tablespoon neat egg mix with 2 tablespoons water equals one egg. I hope to try this product when the weather cools down. It has been much too hot to do any baking. It shows promise and I can see myself using it in baked goods.

Loma Linda Simple Franks - Plant based franks in a can. Seriously! These are made with wheat gluten so be careful with gluten free individuals. Opening the can, I found 8 franks inside. They looks like regular hot dogs. Just heat and eat. I found the texture a little soft, almost too soft for a frank. The taste was very good. If you have ever had those sausages in a can, these are close in texture. Put some mustard on top and it is a great alternative to commercial hot dogs. They still provide 11 grams of protein in one serving. I would definitely consider eating Loma Linda Simple Franks again.

Loma Linda Sloppy Joe - plant based protein sloppy joe. I found this smoky and very flavorful. The appearance is that of a traditional sloppy joe. The spice is good, it has a bit of a kick to it. There is plenty of tomato flavoring. Heat and eat convenience.

Look for these products in your vegetarian sections of your local market of natural markets. They can also be purchased online at Amazon.

Whether you are a vegan, or just wanting to try something healthier, give these plant based foods a try for your holiday picnic.

Many thanks to Atlantic Natural Foods for providing the review product.
