Summer Fun with LeapFrog LeapStart #LeadFrogMomSquad #LeapAhead #Leapfrog

With four kids between the ages of four and fifteen, LeapFrog has been a part of my life for many years. When my oldest daughter was struggling with reading, it was her LeapFrog Tablet that helped her overcome her insecurities. Today my younger daughter is preparing for first grade and my baby is getting ready for kindergarten.  The new LeapFrog LeapStart and the occupying books are the perfect tools to get them ready. I was so excited to be able to test them out and share some of these great products with my family.

We received two LeadStarts for my family to test out. Once they were distributed the kids were able to try out the books for themselves, they got into it right away. The system resembles a hardback book and has a large pen that works like a stylus. You press the buttons on the side to activate the device. You use the pen to touch certain spots on the books, and the children are given different instructions.  They can sing songs, plays games, and read along with the LeadStart books. The start up set comes with one pen and a sample book, but there are dozens of other books to choose from. The system is very easy to use. The kids only needed a little assistance to get started, but once they got the hang of it, even the preschooler was able to handle the LeapStart independently.

When the kids press the pen against the pages of the book, it reads the information to them. The pen will tell the story, all the while teaching the kids phonics and reading skills. You can read straight through or have more difficult words sounded out. There are also games to play on different pages of the book. The LeaperStart is a system that really makes reading interactive and fun. I like it a lot better then my old system, because its more compact and there are no cartridges to lose. You just have to plug it in to download the books you purchase into the device. Because its similar to a handheld stylus, there are even activity books that allow children to write and trace their letters. The LeadStart is an educational toy that will last for many years. The reading levels progress along with your child and there are book choices well into the grade school age group.

The books are wonderful as well. My  kids take turns reading them and each one was a big hit. They cover a variety of different subjects including math, reading, science, geography and more. All in all, we found this new addition to our Leapfrog family to be  a fantastic success.  I know we will be using our LeapStart daily to help my little ones get ready for school next year. If you want to learn more about all the great products available from LeapFrog, be sure to visit their website.
