Holiday Gift Guide - Choose Your Own Adventure Books Review

This Holiday Season, Give them an Adventure!
For generations, intrepid young explorers have lost themselves in Choose Your Own Adventure books (cyoa.com)! Today, these books are still the perfect gift for Kindergarten-5th-grade children on your holiday shopping lists – or even those former ‘Choose’ fanatics.
Educators and parents alike adore this series because even reluctant readers can’t put the books down… and gift-givers enjoy the warm-fuzzies from sharing their favorite childhood reads.
Choose Your Own Adventure books are the fourth-best-selling children’s series of all time. They still captivate even the most “plugged-in” children for hours (without an electronic screen, no less!).

Our Thoughts

I really do remember reading books as a kid that I chose my own path in. My sister and I would read to each other before bed or my parents would read to me. That was a long time ago and yet I still have fond memories. Now I get the chance to create those same memories with my daughters!

I received the 4 Book Box Set which includes:

The Abominable Snowman
You head to the Himalaya in search of the mythical Abominable Snowman.  But when your climbing pal Carlos goes missing, your search takes a very different turn.
144 pages, 28 possible endings

Journey Under the Sea
Did the lost city of Atlantis really exist?  Or is it just a myth?
144 pages, 42 possible endings

Space and Beyond
What if you could choose the planet of your birth?  No one said that choosing your home planet was going to be easy.  You'll have to use all your resources and talents.  Be courageous!  And good luck.  may the Infinite Spirit guide you safely!
144 pages, 42 possible endings

The Lost Jewels of Nabooti
The legendary jewels of Nabooti are missing!  Will finding them help world peace?  Or could it kill you?
144 pages, 38 possible endings

We have not read all of them, we are still on Journey Under the Sea, but so far it is going great. There are a lot of words that my kids have not heard before so I am taking each opportunity to explain these new words and use it as a teaching experience. We spent 30 minutes alone going through a few "choices" today. The story is captivating my eight and five year old equally. When I let my eight year old have the reigns and read, she is really pushing herself past her own limits and reading words much bigger than I even knew she could sound out!

She gets a bit ahead of herself because this is her first Choose  Your Own Adventure book, so she wants to read multiple paths at the same time, and that can get a bit tricky. Great thing about that though is she's really using her mind to keep track of the story line and guess how the story is going to turn next.

It is a great reading experience, and a family experience as we do it together. Children love options and to partner it with books is excellent!
