My Thoughts
I absolutely love this book. It offers two ways to engage your child's mind in one fun package. First you have the story which revolves around a family on a bear hunt. They go through the woods, across a river, and even through a snowstorm in search of a bear. When they finally stumble upon one in a cave, they get so scared they run all the way back home and hide under the covers, even the dad. My children thought he story was really cute and funny, but what they really loved is how each page has a puzzle to complete. This is such a great way to get kids to interact with the book. My children loved all the bright illustrations and had a great time putting the puzzles together as we read each page. It's a wonderful way to encourage kids to read.
The
Almost Fearless Hamilton Squidlegger
By Timothy Basil Ering
HC: 9780763623579 ∙ April 2014 ∙ $16.99 ∙ 40 pages ∙ Ages 3-7
Hamilton Squidlegger isn’t afraid of lots of
things—not frackensnappers, or skelecragons, or even bracklesneeds. But
there is one thing he is afraid of: the dark. In this sweet story set in
a fantastical landscape, a boy learns to overcome
his bedtime fears with a little help from dad – and the promise of
wormcake in the morning!
«
“With a wholehearted commitment to silliness, Ering turns a bedtime
anxiety tale into a swashbuckling adventure. He paints as exuberantly as
he writes, scumbling, dripping, and
swabbing mossy green swamps and orange sunsets. ... Ering’s (and
Hamilton’s) derring-do should make readers forget all about their own
anxieties.” –

Mitchell’s License. Mitchell can’t wait to go to the bowling
alley with Dad – after all, he loves knocking things over! But Mitchell
soon learns about the
gutter, and Dad gets a big X on the scoreboard. Will he ever manage to do the same?
“Durand and Fucile are a winning combination, and
their father/son bonding will leave readers in stitches. Loads of fun
with a lot of heart.” –Kirkus Reviews

«“A deeply resonant story.” –

My Thoughts
There, There is the story of a family of bears. Hansie is the baby bear, and he keeps getting hurt while he's playing. Daddy bear always comes to soothe him and makes him feel better. Later, Daddy Bear gets a thorn in his foot, and little Hansie, with some help from mom, returns the favor. Definitely a sweet story about the special bound between father and son, but what really makes this story stand out are the beautiful illustrations. The bears are so vivid they practically jump off the page, and the background of fall foliage is lovely. This book is a wonderful choice, especially for father's to read to their children.
