There
aren’t many more prominent, or satisfying, signs that spring is finally
here than the annual clean that takes place in households across the
country. While houses nationwide are being swept
out and spruced up, there is one room in the house many Americans
neglect during this seasonal scrub down; the bedroom.
Luckily,
there are simple steps you can take to spring clean your sleep
environment and what many do not realize is great sleep can actually
start in the laundry room and a simple switch in caring
for your bed-time fabrics can make a big difference.
- Wash sheets:
We all know there is a problem when
it comes to sleep hygiene in America, but the question is what can we
do about it? First, the frequency at which you wash your sheets is
critical. You should wash your
sheets every week to maintain a healthy and comfortable sleep
environment. In fact, 100 percent of doctors polled in a recent
Healthcare Research & Analytics (HRA) study agreed that an
appropriate sleeping environment is critical to aid in a person’s
ability
to relax so they can fall asleep and half of physicians would recommend
their patients use clean, lavender scented sheets as a way to help them
relax so they can fall asleep.
Washing bedtime fabrics, including sheets and pajamas, in P&G’s Sweet Dreams Collection – including Tide® plus A touch of Downy™ Sweet Dreams™, Downy® UNSTOPABLES® Dreams™, Downy Infusions® Sweet Dreams™ and Bounce® Sweet Dreams™ – which is formulated with ingredients to clean, soften and freshen bedtime fabrics helps to create a relaxing environment so that you can fall asleep. Additionally, lavender, a key ingredient in the Sweet Dreams Collection, is a well-known soothing scent. When used in the bedroom the products will add a calming, long lasting fragrance that can help you relax so you can fall asleep.
- Controlled room temperature: A cool room, somewhere around 65 degrees, makes for the best sleep. The feel of your mattress, pillows, sheets, and pajamas
also affects the quality of your sleep.
- Turn off Electronics: Many people will lie in bed and check their phones and iPads before falling asleep, but the use of these electronics can have negative effects on your ability to fall asleep. The above HRA study also found that 54 percent of doctors reported one of their patients’ biggest hindrances to falling asleep is engaging in electronics such as phones, computers and televisions too close to bedtime. Commit to a better night’s sleep every night by turning off technology at least 30 minutes before bedtime and taking the “Tuck In. Turn Off.” Pledge at www.TuckInTurnOff.com.
My Thoughts
There's nothing better than laying your head against your pillow the day that you first wash your sheets. It's always a great experience, but with the new Sweet Dreams collection from Downy and Tide, the pleasure is enhanced by the relaxing scents of lavender and vanilla. These soothing scents offer a sort of aromatherapy that makes it easier to drift off to sleep at night. The sweet aroma wraps you in a cocoon that eases the stress of the day.
One of the best parts about the Sweet Dreams collections is that no matter what type of laundry products you prefer, you can find them in this luxurious scent. First you have the Tide Laundry detergent with a hint of Downy. You could get away with just using this if you don't want the scent to be too strong. However, if you're like me, you'll want this fragrance to linger for as long as possible. To enhance the experience, choose between Downy Liquid Softener or Bounce sheets, both available in the Sweet Dreams scent. If you're putting away your sheets after washing, but you want that fresh washed scent to last for weeks, the Downy Unstoppables hold their scent for up to twelve weeks! That's a lot of freshness!
If you want to get a good night's sleep, turn off the gadgets, lay down your head, and try out the Sweet Dreams collection. You can also check out the Tuck In, Turn Off website for more ideas on how turn your bedroom into a spring paradise.

I want to try Downy most from this collection.
I make my own laundry detergent and the one thing I miss is the scent that I like, so I have a lavender spray made for spraying your pillow to help you sleep better.
I love the feel and smell of freshly laundered sheets and enjoy the fragrance that permeates the house when the washer is running. I agree that the temperature of the room and sheets/pillows influences sleep quality.
Getting in bed with a cool temperature and freshly washed sheets is an AMAZING feeling!
I LOVE washing my sheets weekly! I love the feel of freshly laundered sheets and the fabulous smell too! Thanks for sharing!
I love Downy. I haven't tried this fragrance yet. I'll check it out next shopping trip.

There is nothing nicer than going to bed with freshly washed sheets and using the Sweet Dreams scents would make it even better.
I love the smell and feel of freshly washed *really* good sheets. One day when I grow up and win the lottery (ha!) I want to have someone make my bed with freshly washed luxury sheets every day.
I'm not sure I would be able to use the loavendor stuff, but I'll be looking for the next scent.
Those are all great ideas. I also vacuum my mattress with sprinkled baking soda on it.
Its true the scents of lavender and vanilla are calming and soothing. Both are my two favorite scents as well. I know how well I sleep on clean and fresh sheets. Adding these two fragrances could only make my sleeping feel much better.
Great ideas!I am going to look for the Sweet Dreams scent here at the store!
This is a great reminder post! Cleaning up and cleaning out also includes making better habits! I definitely could use more turn off before tucking in! That said, I also love the feel of newly washed sheets!
