***Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review***

Johari’s Joy Delights Children with a Tale of Friendship at the Zoo

Tallahassee, FL based author Boots Hensel has written a second enchanting colorful and fun- filled children’s book, this time about a lonely black rhinoceros who seeks friendship at the zoo.

Johari the rhinoceros, doesn’t have a friend. He is all alone.

Joy, the pig, is all alone, too.

 A zookeeper places them together.

Can this odd couple be friends? Or is living with a stinky pig more than this rhinoceros can handle?

The only way to save a rhinoceros is to save the environment in which it lives, because there’s a mutual dependency between it and millions of  other species of both animals and plants.

My Thoughts

Johari's Joy is a cute story about life at the zoo. Johari is lonely rhinoceros looking for a friend, but when the zoo keeper pairs him up with a pig, he doesn't believe it can work out. He goes around the zoo, talking to the other animals. They all try to make him feel better by offering their favorite comfort foods, but Johari doesn't like any of them. When he goes back to Joy the pig, he realizes they have more in common than any of the other animals, right down to their curly tails.

My children really enjoyed this picture book. The illustrations grabbed their attention and the storyline was fun, fast paced, and easy to relate to.  It's fun following Johari through the zoo and meeting all the different animals and there's a valuable lesson to be learned. Never judge a friend by the way they look. Take the time to get to know them, and you may have more in common then you think.  In addition to all this, there are also some interesting real life rhino facts at the back of the book.  Definitely a great addition to any family library.

Thank you Laura for your review and that you enjoyed the book. I am relieved to know you understood what I wanted to convey in a fun and non-preachy way.
Also, happy that you thought the facts in the back of the book was a good idea. I had questioned that idea, but glad now that I added it.

Thank you again,
