Orange Julius^® specialty fruit smoothies and drinks and new $5 Buck Lunch value meal now available at local Dairy Queen locations

In a first for the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry, the Dairy Queen^® system has introduced Orange Julius^® Light Smoothies as part of the national roll-out of Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and Julius^® Originals. In addition, the DQ^® system has introduced the $5 Buck Lunch value meal in response to consumer demand for value, particularly at lunch.  

            All Orange Julius Light Smoothies, Premium Fruit Smoothies and Julius Originals are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry^®, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada. Two different boosts, protein or fresh banana, can also be added to any Orange Julius drink. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are made with real fruit, no artificial flavors or sweeteners and contain 170 calories or less in a small. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are made fresh to order with real fruit, blended with low-fat yogurt and no artificial flavors. 

The Dairy Queen system’s $5 Buck Lunch value meal is available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice for their $5 Buck Lunch of a ¼ lb. GrillBurger™ with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard^® Treat.

 My Thoughts

Dairy Queen was awesome enough to send me gift card to try out the $5 lunch and the Orange Julius Smoothies. So one day, my husband and I set out to our local Dairy Queen. We ran into one problem. They don't have the lunch options there. They only serve ice cream. So I was a little disappointed I couldn't try out the full meal and tell everyone first hand how awesome it was, but I still know a great deal when I see one. A hamburger, fries, soda and ice cream all for $5! You can't ask for a better deal then that. I am diligently working on convincing my local DQ to extend their menu so I can take advantage of this deal.

Happily, I was able to try out the Orange Julius Smoothies. I love the idea of a lower calorie option for smoothies. It makes me feel like I'm not cheating when I take the kids out for ice cream. I opted for the strawberry banana and it was definitely a tasty and refreshing treat in this ninety degree heatwave. It  didn't taste like it was missing anything other than calories. It was just as sweet and fruity as their regular smoothies. My son loved it just as much as I did and kept grabbing it, even though he had his own treat.

Speaking of treats, there are lots of other favorites we have at DQ. My daughter Willow enjoyed some chocolate ice cream in a cup and my husband indulged in a vanilla cone with a chocolate coating. We got all this for under $10, so whether you have the $5 deal at your local DQ or not, there are lots of other great deals to be had. Its one of the only places where we can still afford to take our family of six and let everyone get whatever they want. So head over there today and check out what's on the menu.
