Least Among Saints DVD Review

***Complimentary product received in exchange for an honest review***

Coming home to a broken marriage and uncertain future, veteran Anthony Hayward (Papazian) thinks he’s at the end of his rope. But when his troubled ten year-old neighbor, Wade (Tristan Lake Leabu), calls out for help, Anthony can’t seem to turn away.

To the dismay of the boy’s embattled social worker (Laura San Giacomo), Anthony sets out on a fool’s quest to help this heartbroken but hard to reach child find his long-lost father, who might not even exist. In the midst of this new mission – the first that seems to matter since his return -- Anthony begins to come to grips with both the costs of war and the universal power of human connection.

LEAST AMONG SAINTS was the winner of the 2013 Sedona Film Festival Audience Award and has been nominated for a PRISM award (feature film category) by the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC) .

Described by Military.com as "a movie that has the same impact on issues for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans that Coming Home had for Vietnam vets," Papazian’s film has been praised by veteran groups as an authentic portrait of one man’s struggle with the aftermaths of war and his quest for redemption.

 My Thoughts

Least Among Saints in an emotional film on several levels. Anthony Hayward is a man struggling with post-traumatic stress from his days in the war. When his ten-year-old neighbor loses his mother, the two of them find a bond they can't really explain. Anthony takes the boy under his wing and promises to help him find his birth father, but along the way they learn that some connections are stronger than blood.I enjoyed this film. It does tug and the heart strings, and the actors certainly deliver powerful performances with what they have to work with. I do feel there were a few too many improbable coincidences along the way, but it was easy to overlook them and get wrapped up in the heartwarming elements of the film. The ending was a little predictable but all and all, this is a good film that reminds us we can find what we're looking in for in unexpected places. 4 Stars.
