Keep your home safe during your vacation with D-Link home cameras.

It’s time to pack those water floaties and sunscreen – summer is finally here. This summer is expected to be the busiest ever for air travel – an estimated 222 million travelers are expected to fly from June 1st - August 31st1. In addition to being a busy time for travel, summer is also a busy time for burglary – according to the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics2, burglary is 11 percent more common in the summer than in the winter, making it essential to include home security on your pre-trip checklist.

D-Link delivers simple DIY home security products to keep an eye on what matters most, even while miles away. Unlike some competing products that require contracts, subscription fees and indiscriminately dump the entire feed into the cloud, D-Link® cameras feature local recording options as well as sound and motion detection, giving them a remarkably small bandwidth footprint.

“No homeowner wants to return from a wonderful vacation to see their home vandalized and their valuables gone,” said Daniel Kelley, vice president of marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc. “Taking steps to secure your home not only provides peace of mind, it can also deter burglars. D-Link offers a variety of easy to use home security solutions that will allow vacationers to relax a little easier this summer.”

D-Link offers several security solutions to keep homes safe during summer travel, including the mydlink® Camera Video Recorder (DNR-202L) that can simultaneously stream, record and playback up to four D-Link Wi-Fi Cameras*. The DNR-202L records footage locally to an attached USB hard drive, accessible from anywhere via the free mydlink View app or the mydlink.com portal, and it doesn’t require a dedicated PC to run.

In preparation for this year’s busy summer travel season, D-Link offers the following tips for securing your home to bring peace of mind to your vacation.

1.     Make Your Camera Obvious: First and foremost, install a camera and make it obvious – burglars are less likely to target a home that has cameras installed near doors and windows. Whether monitoring inside with a D-Link Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera (DCS-5020L) or outside with the D-Link HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera (DCS-2330L), D-Link’s line of home surveillance cameras provides cost-effective, DIY alternatives to expensive home alarm systems. In addition, these cameras offer night vision for a clear view in low-light conditions.

2.     Monitor Your Home from Afar: Relax a little easier by using your mobile device to make sure your home is safe and the teenage neighbor is feeding the cat regularly. The free mydlink mobile apps work with D-Link home surveillance cameras and connect directly to a smartphone or tablet to provide users a live view of their home anytime, anywhere.

3.     React Quickly: An average burglary will last between 8 to 12 minutes3. The mydlink app can send push notifications directly to a smartphone or tablet, alerting homeowners of sound or motion detection. This alert can give homeowners time to call the police or a neighbor.

4.     Keep Record: Keep video footage for future use. The D-Link DNR-202L allows for motion or schedule based recording of high-quality video and audio and records locally, so there is no need for cloud-based storage contracts or fees. Recorded footage is accessible with the free mydlink View app, and if an intruder breaks or steals your Wi-Fi camera, the recorded footage is still safe.

My Thoughts

D-Link makes some great cameras and I was thrilled to get to try some of these out. The husband and I have been debating a security system for quite some time, but when calling around the different companies, it gets expensive. D-Link gives you an affordable option that you can customize.

The D-Link Pan and Tilt Camera is awesome. You have almost a 360 degree look of your the area you place the camera. In order to control the camera, you need to use an app on your smartphone, tablet, or computer website. It's very easy to use and move the camera around. It also supplies sound, so you can hear what's going on in your home as well. When away from home, it was nice being able to check in on this camera, and the other D-Link cameras. I did notice only a small lag when I asked the camera to move, but it's to be expected when both devices are on the Internet.

The D-Link outdoor HD camera is great too. It's small and easy to hang. It also connects to wi-fi and you're able to access it the same ways. It gives a peace of mind to be able to check on the outside of your home when away. We have ours set up to monitor the front of the house due to some recent car break ins in the area.

D-Link also offers a camera video recorder, so you can actually record the different camera. This is nice, because you can't watch your cameras all the time. With this, you can go back and check the recordings if something were to happen at your home. I found the recordings to be clean and not very grainy.

I was very pleased with all the D-Link cameras and I've been telling people about them sense. They are worth the investment, especially to give you a piece of mind. It's very nice to check in on your home when you're away. Even if you're at the office, you can check in on the pets and make sure they are okay.

D-Link AC1900 Router Review - Father's Day Gift Guide

With so many tech gifts on the shelves, dad needs a router that delivers extremely fast 11AC Wi-Fi speeds, creating a maximum-performance wireless network designed to handle high-bandwidth activities – like HD streaming and lag-free gaming – even in the farthest corners of the house. With dual-band technology, dad can perform simple Internet activities on the 2.4GHz band and more demanding activities on the cleaner, interference-free 5GHz band, plus an all-new user interface makes it easier than ever to control a network from a smartphone or tablet.

My Thoughts

The D-Link 1900 is a pretty impressive router. My home is full of gadgets. Between smart phones, laptops, tablets, and gaming systems, we are always on the internet and need a router that can handle us all, especially with summer here. We've been using the D-Link 1900 in our home for about two weeks now. This router is packed full of great features that we don't have the network fully set-up yet to the way we want it.

For the most part, this router was easy to install. We were up and running with internet again in no time. I've seen a big improvement in speed since using this router versus our old one. This router seems to be able to handle our family with much more ease.

A few features that I really like about this router is the parental control features and being able to choose which device it works with. I have a son who is a tween, and if I let him, he'll stay on the computer or tablet all day. I am able to block out the hours he has internet access and even the amount of time. As well, I can choose what kind of content he can see on the internet.

The router also has the feature of cloud storage. As far as I can tell, it's secure and only accessible to our family. I believe the things we place on the cloud, we can also access them when not home. So if we have photos on our network cloud, we can log in and show them to relatives when visiting their home.

As far as the technical stuff, it appears you can have several things hardwired into this router. There is a USB 3.0 USB port on the side. You can place an external hard drive there and be able to access it from any computer in the house. This I like, because I have my world on a pink external hard drive, so it would be nice to place it at one spot in the house and not have to move it around from computer to computer like I do.

Over all, we were very impressed with this router. It has a ton, and I mean TON of features that makes it perfect for any home. We are still tinkering with it and learning about it each weekend when we sit down to work on the home network. It isn't that it's hard to set up, it's just that it comes with so many features that we are still learning which ones we need and don't.

D-Link Partners with Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue

D-Link Partners with Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue

D-Link to Donate Wi-Fi Cameras to New Pet Owners to Help Promote Pet Adoption and Responsible Pet Ownership

D-Link announced on March 10, 2015, a partnership with Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue, Inc. (PPITS), a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abused, abandoned, neglected, and stray companion animals. D-Link will donate Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Cameras to new pet owners who adopt from Paw Prints in the Sand as part of a larger effort to advocate adopting rescue pets.
The relationship will promote responsible pet ownership and pet retention. Additionally, D-Link will develop a series of training and animal behavioral videos in conjunction with Paw Prints in the Sand to help pet owners have happier pets and homes.
“Over 2.7 million companion animals are put down in our nation’s shelter system every year. It is our goal to reduce those numbers,” said Kelly Reeves, president and co-founder, Paw Prints in the Sand. “A good majority of those pets were surrendered to the shelter by their owners because the owners simply didn’t understand the pet’s basic needs. We are thrilled to partner with D-Link to help promote adopting shelter pets and pet retention, which will help reduce the number of pets euthanized daily.”
D-Link® Wi-Fi cameras are an excellent tool to keep up with pets’ activities while away, especially if folks have an in-home pet sitter or daily dog walker - or anyone who has access to their home. Users can view a secure, live feed of their home and pets from a smart phone or laptop from anywhere and enjoy the peace of mind of knowing their furry family members are safe.
“Paw Prints in the Sand is doing some truly amazing work to help animals in need,” said Daniel Kelley, vice president of marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc. “We are happy to help such a great cause and keep animals out of the shelters or off the streets and in loving homes where they belong.”

My Thoughts

Daytime Mode:

Night time mode:

This is a pretty neat camera. My dog suffers from anxieties, so I was really excited to try this out and see what did does when I'm not home. Well---she'd pretty boring. Ha ha! She just sits and lays on the stairs and waits for me to come home. Surprisingly, she wasn't whining (yes, there is sound.)

I had no issues using the app when I was not home and having it connect to the camera that was in my home. There was a slight lag when I titled the camera up and down, but that has to be expected since I wasn't in the house. I don't even think my dog noticed it moving when I was away and I would spin it around to look for her.

Set-up was pretty easy. It took me a few trys to get it right, but that's me. I think it took around half an hour to get everything I needed downloaded, installed, and set-up before we were up and running. I did it the hardwire way until I realized later I could have done it from the app on my phone.

I really like the camera. The image is good. The photos that were taken with the camera were pretty clear, no grain to them. The camera is light weight and not bulky. I would recommend this to a friend who needed to watch their pets while away.
