FINALLY! A Coloring Book for Metalheads & Cat Lovers!

For all of us who ONLY want to color outside of the lines: rock out on kitties and headbangers!

Skulls and Siamese. Corpse paint and Persians. Baphomet, pentagrams, blood, and tabbies!

Metal Cats Coloring Book combines two juxtaposed and amazing subjects: the extreme personalities of the true metal music scene and their adorable kitties. Based on the photographs of the book Metal Cats, these incredibly cute and fluffy felines appear side by side with their loving owners from bands like Black Goat, Thrones, Isis, Lightning Swords of Death, Book of Black Earth, Skarp, Harassor, Akimbo, Aldebaran, Atriarch, Oak, Ghoul, Ludicra, Holy Grail, Xasthur, Cattle Decapitation, Murder Construct, Exhumed, Morbid Angel, Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Gypsyhawk, Nausea, Phobia, and Napalm Death, along with many other metalheads.

Featuring 30 original drawings, it's now your turn to get in on the action. Pull out your Crayolas and markers and help everyone look most evil by adding your own vibrant colors to these amazing and hilarious pairings. Fun for ages 1-666.

Alexandra Crockett, a musician, zinester and jewelry designer, has been present and active in the metal community since age 15 and is currently finishing up a doctoral degree in the Bay Area. Beginning her idea for the book by doing promotional photos for bands and friends she would cat-sit for, she found an interesting dynamic between men in the metal scene and their cats. The idea formed around giving accolades to local musicians and artists in the metal scene, while also bringing attention to no-kill shelters and their importance for animal rights.

Coloring Book / Cats / Heavy Metal
Paperback, 8 x 10.375 inches, 32 pages
ISBN: 978-1-57687-845-3, $9.99 US/CAN.

My Thoughts:

Words cannot describe how much I LOVE this coloring book. I was raised on metal throughout my life. As a little girl my dad was always blasting Dio, Judas Priest, and Metallica. Into my teenage years my second home was music venues supporting my local rock and metal scenes. On top of helping bands, I also frequented any music festivals I could find. Metal has and always will have a special place in my heart. Not only was it a way for my dad and to make memories and bond, it was where I felt a sense of belonging and community for many years.

As an animal lover as well, this coloring book was ideal for me. It is true that many metalheads do indeed love their cats! I know quite musicians that are fellow animal loves and adore supporting animal charities. When I heard that not only does this coloring book have amazing art, but brings awareness to animal rights and no-kill shelters, my heart was won.

For any music and animal lovers, this is a must have in your collection! Fun and laughs for hours on end are to be had. With unique pictures, detailed layouts, adorable cats, and a true metal feel, you will be head banging and coloring the night away!

Unique Coloring Books for Adults Review

Kick-start your creativity with these coloring books for adults! Pencils, crayons, markers, or paint—whatever medium you choose, you can illuminate a beautiful piece of art with the use of color palettes and your inner interior designer. Gorgeous vintage and "nature-inspired" patterns with swirls and angles make each page an interesting adventure. Use these designs as inspiration for stenciling, crafts, or even tattoos! Coloring can be relaxing and meditative, so get out your art supplies and enjoy!

You won't get in trouble for coloring on these walls! The Wallpaper Coloring Book offers wallpaper designs to color in, from twenty distinct eras. From the 1730s to the present day, you'll find all sorts of interesting patterns. You may even pick up some decorating tips!

Our Thoughts

I am steadily racking up my stock of adult coloring books. I absolutely love them. They take you straight back to your childhood, at least for me. As a kid I would color for hours with music playing in the background and it is still something I do today. They are much better than the kids coloring books that I play with with my kids. Now they can use their age appropriate books and I an use mine!

The Nature Coloring Book is my favorite because I love flowers and nature themed items. This book doesn't just have flowers in it, there are beautiful pictures of full-sized animals of various types throughout the book as well. These are easy to color, big enough to fit markers and crayons. I like to use colored pencils and skinny markers. The markers don't bleed through the pages, but even if they do they're blank on the back of each page.  I just wish the pages were perforated because the pictures are so pretty that I want to take some of them out and frame them!

The Wallpaper Coloring book is definitely quirky and unique. My nine year old loves this book actually. Each page has some type of dog or cat and my daughter is obsessed with cats. The furniture and designs are pretty cool to learn about the different time periods and how they actually furnished their rooms then. The designs are really easy to color, I recommend markers for these ones so they're pretty bold as it's a "wall" you're coloring.

The art in each of these books is great. There's also other items like the Vintage book so there really is something for everyone. Great gifts to give for the Holiday Season!

Fashion Rebel Outfit Maker Review

FASHION REBEL OUTFIT MAKER (Thames & Hudson, October 6, 2015) includes everything aspiring designers ages 8 and up need to break the mold and create their own brilliant outfits. This exciting activity book features a drawing pad with the outline of a model on each page, and clothing template cards in a convenient pocket behind the front cover. Each card has easy-to-replicate outlines of a whole range of garments and accessories, from dresses and coats to shoes, scarves, and bathing suits. The young designer chooses a garment on a card, slides it behind a translucent sketchbook page, and traces the outline over their model. Then they repeat the process until the model’s outfit is complete. Each page has a fill-in Garment Box similar to those used in design studios, so budding fashion illustrators can note all the details about the design and choose a name for each look.

Our Thoughts

I love this! I have some pretty creative little girls in my family, and while they love to play dress-up, they especially love to create their own unique designs too! On any given day you can find three little girls creating their own outfits and putting on fashion shows in the living room, and with this they get to create the style of what their outfits would look like.

Any type of coloring or hand craft is great for the mind and for children development. I love that this helps children expand on their creativity and dexterity. The shapes are well tailored for a real body and it has even helped my girls learn how to draw free-hand which is a definite plus.

It's not hard to understand how the book works together, the girls picked up on that pretty quick. I make sure they sit at the table so nothing is lost or ruined with it. As you can see from the picture above there is a good built in folder for storage. During some of our longer car rides I do let them take it with them because it really keeps them occupied for a long time and it's much healthier than looking at a tablet screen! They say their favorite thing about the Fashion Rebel Outfit Maker is that they can get inspired with each season's clothing choices. They quite often attempt to find items in their closet to match their creations!

Nothing makes a little girl feel prouder than "pretending" to be a fashion designer! This is a great item for any little girl.

    • Fun thinking games for 1 or 2 players
    • For ages 5 to 9 years; Peaceable Kingdom packaging is all designed to be frustration free - naturally!

    Our Thoughts

I travel a lot with three kids varying in ages, each one has different likes and things that keep them occupied. In the car, this Write and Wipe is something that my six year old stays entertained with. Our rides are about two hours long (doesn't seem to matter where we go, it's always two hours away when we're visiting someone!) and this keeps her happy for most of that trip.

The book is small and compact so she can fit it into one of her gazillion purses or she will just carry it by the sturdy little handle that is on top of the book. It also fits perfectly in one of the smaller book bags for little kids.

Each page has something new on it so she's never bored. Each page is brightly colored so it's pretty captivating for small children. The games are fun and educational. I also like that some of them are two player, which means that my older daughter can participate too with my younger daughter.

The markers are easily replaceable at most of your typical stores, but it does last quite a while and I like that there is an eraser on the end so that my daughter's fingers don't get all gross from wiping it off herself!

Relax and de-stress from your busy life by coloring this collection of whimsical mandalas that incorporate mystical imagery into the patterns

Relax, focus, reach a higher state of mindfulness and simply enjoy yourself as you artfully turn the intricate shapes in this book into stunning works of art. Coloring Dream Mandalas offers you an imaginative array of inspiring quotes and beautiful images, including:

    •Dragons
    •Dream catchers
    •Fairies
    •Stars and Moons
    •Angels
    •Birds
    •Sacred Symbols
    •Castles

    Our Thoughts

I'm sure that there are plenty parents out there, especially moms, that want to color with the kids or even color alone! I know that when I plan to color with the kids, all they do is take over my book or page because mine is so much better than theirs, even if it's the same book! The Coloring Dream Mandalas book gives mom (or dad) an opportunity to color along side the kids but have a book that is of an adult caliber.

I absolutely loved taking time and coloring the Mandala I chose. Granted I came back to it a couple times because of it being so much more difficult than a regular book but I can't say enough about it! I love the intricacy of the designs and I love all the detail you can get with this! I recommend getting twist pencils or twist crayons to use as colors unless you're an avid artist. Your typical crayons just don't work because of the intricacy of the designs.

The photo is one of the less complicated designs that I have colored in the book.

You can find Coloring Dream Mandalas for purchase on Amazon or a signed copy on Etsy. You can find out more about Wendy Peirsall on her website and follow her on Instagram and Pintrest.

    Review: Adult Coloring Books

Coloring is a favorite pastime of kids everywhere. We all spent hours during our childhoods filling page after page, sometimes with iffy results. Still, we had fun and it fulfilled our creative sides. Somewhere along the way, most of us grow up and feel that coloring books are a thing that we have to set aside as we take on adult responsibilities.

Those who continue to enjoy coloring (and the stress-relief benefits) are often left to choose between a selection of books featuring cartoon characters that don’t challenge the part of our brains that has far outgrown the big pictures. That’s where companies like Barron's are stepping in with lines of coloring books specifically for adults.

These are definitely not the pictures we grew up coloring! The images in these books are intricate, making them challenging to fill in. I love the fact they are so detailed; it allows me to really focus on what I am doing. My personal favorite of the books I received to try is the “Color Yourself Calm”.

“Color Yourself Calm” is a book that contains images of a more spiritual nature. Each page comes with a companion image already filled in so you get an idea of how the image should look. Messages are also printed on the bottom relating to mindfulness and other spiritual ideas. I love that because it gives you something to meditate on while you color. I think the combination is a great way to meditate and allow your subconscious mind to come through.

If you’re itching to let your inner child out to play, I’d recommend picking up some of these books. It seriously took me back and was a blast to work with the books.

Paisley & Mandala Coloring Books for Adults Review

Four new activity books from Skyhorse Publishing will allow parents to join their children during playtime, allowing them to temporarily put aside their worries and reignite their imagination.

Paisleys: Coloring for Everyone, Paisleys: Coloring for Artists, Mandalas: Coloring for Everyone, and Mandalas: Coloring for Artists are the perfect activity books for parents to enjoy with their children!

Since 2013, coloring books targeted to adults have topped bestselling charts, selling more than 1.4 million copies in over twenty-two languages. Skyhorse’s four books, the only adult coloring books on the market with perforations, will allow budding artists to gift or display their beautiful creations! With a tremendous capacity to combat stress, it’s no surprise that adult coloring books have become the biggest trend!

This four-book series features vibrant illustrations and detailed introductions highlighting the history of both the paisley and mandala motifs. Eleven pages of full-color designs illustrate, for the beginner or advanced artist, the design and coloring typical of these ancient patterns. Easy-to-follow steps reveal how artists can draw mandalas and paisleys freehand or via their computer.

    Our Thoughts

I love to color, always have. I just don't get that same peaceful feeling when coloring a princess coloring book with my daughters though. Doodling designs, much like henna, is something I love, but to have a coloring book with premade designs in them is awesome.

Each page has a beautiful, intricately designed paisley or mandala. It's hard to color in a book because of the binding, so these books were made with perforated pages so you can (EASILY!) tear them out and color on a flat surface, which, aside from the designs themselves, is probably my most favorite feature.

Some designs have bigger markings, and are real simple to color. Some of the designs are very very tiny, and even the smallest coloring pencil tip of mine just doesn't get it as good as I want it to, but it is still fun to do in any case.

You can make the colors bold or soft, and if done with a good eye, these can easily be framed and placed on the wall as art, the designs are that pretty.

Doing any type of repetitive activity with your hands is very therapeutic. I love to play some zen music in the background and sit with my daughters while we all color, my mind just wanders, it is a lovely relaxation experience!

    Review: Eggnogg Color-in Products

**Product was received in exchange for a honest review**

Eggnogg Color-in Products offer quirky designs for kids to just “color-in”, no need to worry about staying inside the lines. The fun and festive Halloween items include a Knight’s helmet and outfit and Princess dress, as well as spooky masks. Kids will love trick or treating in their own personally designed costumes! http://www.eggnogg.net/

    Our Thoughts
You know when you're at a restaurant and the kids are going stir-crazy because the food isn't coming fast enough, so you flag your waiter down and ask for coloring stuff for the kids? Eggnogg saves the time and effort of having to wait. I stuffed the Pocket Books that were sent into the diaper bag where I had some "travel" packs of crayons for the kids. They got bored waiting at the table, were starting to get fidgety, I pulled out the Pocket Books and let them color! So easy! The drawings in the books are simple and the kids absolutely loved having their own little book!

Eggnogg also sent Party Invites for Boys, a Knights & Maidens Tablecloth, and Little Sticky Critter stickers that the kids have thoroughly enjoyed.

The invites are awesome, not only did my 5-year-old (soon to be 6!) color the invites and hand deliver them to family but he can color the Thank You's that are included (and match the invites) after his party to send to people who gave gifts. I'm sure that the grandparents will be hanging the invite and thank you on the fridge for a while.

The tablecloth we threw on the table, grabbed some crayons and markers and got busy! The whole family had fun coloring it! Each person had their own space and there was no fighting by the kids over who got what pictures or even what colors! The tablecloth makes for great family time allowing us to catch up with the kids and do something constructive without the TV, video games or other electronics! The kids even added the Little Sticky Critters to the tablecloth! How fun is that?

If you're looking for something that is plain fun and simple, the Eggnogg products are awesome! You can check them out at their website and order from there!
