I'm all about eco-friendly companies. I love finding new products that are innovative and help reduce my carbon footprint. Recently, my family and I were talking about shopping for new lighting for our home. This time of year it's getting darker much earlier than usual. The lack of sunlight has been affecting all of our moods. When I heard of Solight's waterproof, non-toxic lighting I was excited to see what they offered.
The Solight Origami Lanterns are well made and can provide a unique aesthetic to any home! The designs are perfect for weddings or yard décor for any season. They can also make for a unique camping experience or a fun nightlight for kids. With these stunning lanterns, design and beauty don’t have to be compromised for functionality. Some of the lights even double as power banks to keep your devices charged when you're on the go. With multiple designs to chose from including the star origami shape and a color changing box with a variety of colors, there is something for everyone. They reduce the need for artificial light, lower stress levels, reduce emissions, and save on electricity costs. As such, purchasing a Solight sustainable solar light is a small investment that can lead to long-term returns.
Alice Chun, the female inventor and co-founder of the company originally lived in Korea before moving to New York. From a young age, her mother instilled a love of origami. Later in life, she developed a passion for design, structure and forms. She obtained a Masters in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. When the solar trend took off, Alice started out sewing solar panels into fabric. She became even more focused on solar technology and clean energy solutions when her son Quinn was diagnosed with asthma. Eventually, this led to the Solight designs that are taking the world by storm.
Alice is an author, TedX speaker, has been featured in The Skimm, The Story Exchange, Fast Company, The New York Times, Cheddar, Huffington Post, Heavy, Men’s Journal, and was nominated for USPTO Patents for Humanitarian Winner in 2018. She also appeared in the Apple TV+ show ‘Gutsy’, with female rock stars including Jane Goodan, Wanda Sykes, Meg Thee Stallion, Kim Kardashian, and others. Check out the trailer below.
In addition to offering a superior product, Solight is a company that supports many humanitarian efforts. Ten percent of their profits are donated to charity. In addition, their Give a Light to Al Magdelino and Citizens of the World program delivers Solights to the most underserved regions in the world who are living without power.
They also offer the opportunity to purchase a light for only $25 that can be donated to areas struggling from natural disasters. Currently they are providing hurricane relief to people affected by the recent hurricane in Florida.
