All proceeds directly support the Wyland Foundation 's annual education campaigns for clean water and healthy oceans. The goal is it to bring attention to water quality, availability, and the importance of safe, reliable water distribution systems which have become issues of national interest in recent years. Thousands participate every year and participants have pledged to save billions of gallons of water in addition to practicing greener lifestyles.
Robert Wyland, world renowned muralist and founder of the the Wyland Foundation, recently restored his historical whale mural on the Cleveland Public Power building on Interstate 90. The 30,000 square foot mural, entitled “Song of Whales,” is part of one of the world’s largest arts-in-public places projects, with 100 murals created in a 30-year span in 17 countries. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Cuyahoga River Fire in Cleveland, a landmark event that focused the nation’s attention on the health of our lakes, rivers, and waterways.
