Care Conversations - Preparing for the Care Needs of Your Aging Parents #CareConvo @Resourcefulmom

***This post has been sponsored by Global Influence***

No one wants to think about their parents aging. Right now, my mom still seems as young to me as she did when I was a little girl. But sometimes the aging process sneaks up on us quickly. When I was growing up, my grandmother lived with us. She, too, led a healthy and active lifestyle well into her eighties. However, when she started to decline, it happened quickly, and we weren't prepared. We didn't know what her wishes were for her long-term care, and she was no longer in a position to tell us. Making the choices fell to my mother and it was a difficult time for all of us.  My mother and I both agree that we don't want there to  be any question about her care as she ages. If she requires long term care that I can't handle alone, we want to have a plan in place.

Planning and Preparing for long-term care can be a complex process, but Care Conversations is here to help. This all inclusive website has tips on how to bring up the topic of long tern care with your loved ones and advice on how to get started. For example, Care Conversations recommends getting certain documents in place to make the process easier.  Advance Directives ensure your loved ones have a say in their future care. My mother and I have had in-depth conversations about the long-term care facilities in our area. We've visited many of them, and have drawn up legal papers ensuring her choices are respected if  she can't speak for herself.   These include a living will and power of attorney. Having these in place gives up both a sense of security.

If you think it's time to start talking to your parents about their long-term care,  but you aren't sure where to start, Care Conversations can help. Visit their website for more information or come join the twitter party hosted by Resouceful Mommy.

It’s not easy initiating “the talk” with parents, but it’s something that adult children need to do. A long term care event can be tough to deal with if you don’t know what your parents want or what they prefer in terms of how and where they will be cared for. Without a plan, this can result to another crisis in the middle of a crisis. Of course, nobody wants that.

Also, we featured this article in our Weekly Digest because it encourages to families to talk about long-term care. You can read it here http://www.ltcoptions.com/weekly-digest-tips-financial-security-care-conversations-family/. Thanks!
