The season for thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes and
even extreme heat is coming and all create power outage situations that can
turn your home into an accident waiting to happen. While most commercial
buildings have back up power lighting systems, most homes do not and the
batteries in flashlights almost always end up being dead when you need to use
them. Mr. Beams has created the ReadyBright Power Outage Lighting System as a
solution. Simply place the LED lights in the kit along hallways and in other
strategic areas around your home then plug the battery-operated remote into any
wall socket. The remote will use the outlet to detect any power outage and will
signal any lights within 70 feet to turn them on using a wireless signal.
All ReadyBright lights will turn off after 30 minutes to
conserve battery life when you are not home. Simply pull the remote out of the
outlet or press the power button to keep lights on during a power outage.
My Thoughts
Just a few years ago, my home state was hit by Super Storm Sandy, the worst storm we've seen for a century. Attire towns were washed away and many homes and businesses were destroyed. My hometown was lucky. Our damage was minimal, but we still went a few days without power. We had flashlights and candles, but I wish we'd had a Mr. Beams Ready Bright System during the course of that storm.
Mr. Beams is an emergency light designed to go off as soon as your power goes out. Whether its a huge hurricane or just a small thunderstorm, having this light definitely makes things easier. There are three pieces to the set. Two are battery-powered lights can be mounted anywhere inside your home. The first is round, shaped like a fire detector. The second is square and a little smaller and meant to be used as a path light. Each of these include the wall mounts so you can hang them wherever you think they would be the most convenient. Both of the lights are very powerful. When I tested them out, they lit up my whole hallway and even illuminated the rooms around them. Because they are weatherproof, you could even place one outside.
The third piece to the set is the remote, but it also has a small light. This should be plugged into an outlet somewhere inside your home. It has a battery pack that allows it to operate when the power goes out. Because it's plugged into your jack, the device actually senses when the electricity current stops flowing during a power outage, and the two lights go on automatically, no matter where you have them placed inside your home. I tested the lights by turning out my electric manually using the fuse box, and they worked perfectly. All the lights came on the second the flip was switched. There is even a timer on them so they will turn off on their own after half-an-hour if you're not home. If you are home, just hold down the power button in the remote and the lights go back out.
I think this is a great device to have around for emergencies. Sometimes power outrages are unexpected. I remember when a car accident had my lights out for hours and because it was beautiful weather, I had no flashlight or candles within arm's reach. With Mr. Beams, you won't have to stumble around in the dark, stubbing your toes in an effort to find some lighting. They are also a lot safer than candles. There are lots of things to love about Mr. Beams. Everyone should have these around the house.
