My Thoughts

There are a lot of versions of this classic love story out there, but this is one of my favorites. I think everyone pretty much knows the gist of the story. A pair of star-crossed lovers born into rival families take their lives rather than live apart. What sets this movie apart from other version are the stunning performances and gorgeous backdrops. It's not a word for word adaption of the play, but it is set in Verona and stays true to the basic theme. The costumes are stunning and the passion of this doomed couple simply emanates off the screen.

Romeo & Juliet is a truly a timeless romance, but this film makes it fresh for a new generation. My teenage daughter enjoyed it every bit as much as I did and went right to the school library to borrow the original play to see how it compares. Anything that inspires the younger generation to read the classics is a great thing is my book.
