This is the story of how Frances Peabody came to live in New York City. Frances was a brave little dachshund who was born in a small New England town.
Although she was very sick when she came into this world, Frances was able to overcome her illness, travel to different places, and make many friends. This book is just the beginning of A Little Dachshund's Tale, as told by Frances and some of the people she encounters along the way. Look for more stories to come about this beloved little dog!
The author grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts, which happens to be the neighboring town where this delightful children's story begins. April Jean spent her summers on the island of Nantucket, a setting for future stories.
First-time author April Jean is a former teacher who now runs a pet-sitting service in Manhattan. "Quite simply, Frances inspired me to write this book. She brought so much joy to me and my family I just wanted to share her story. I have three other completed books: a counting book, a short story about a beekeeper who lives in Brooklyn, and a story about a pig named Higgilty Piggilty, who gathers an unlikely group of friends together for a Thanksgiving meal. I also have several other books in the works in addition to the follow-up book about Frances in the Little Dachshund's series."
Review
Initially I thought this would be a great book to review just because growing up I had a dachshund. When I received the book my oldest who is nine took the book from me and started reading it to the younger two boys. While there were times that I had to help him, it was a great book for him to read as it was a bit of a challenge but not too much of a challenge. The story of Frances was something that my oldest enjoyed and felt that he could enjoy as much as he enjoys reading some of the classic novels that line his shelves. Even the illustrations are fantastic! This is a great story for the kids and adults alike!
You can find A Little Dachshund's Tale on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
