My Thoughts

My daughter will be starting Pre-K in the fall and now is the time to give her a head start. I am always on the lookout for games that will help her build her reading and writing skills. So I asked to review the Word Phonics Magnetic Board. The game comes with a variety of beginner words on flashcards. Each word has a picture that corresponds to it, like dog, car, milk etc. The first letter of the word is missing and the kids have to figure out which letter goes there. The cards slide into the board and they use the magnetic pen to guide the right letter to the right spot.

Willow is only three so we struggled a little initially, but after almost two weeks of working with this toy, she is starting to learn the words. She almost always picks out the right letter and can even recognize the words from the game when we're reading her books. I am extremely impressed at how quickly it worked and what a big difference this game has made in our first steps toward reading.

In addition to being a fun and educational toy, I also like that the board is made from natural wood instead of plastic. And since Willow has a little brother who still likes to put things in his mouth, I'm very happy that the magnetic letters are permanently encased in the board so they aren't creating a choking hazard. All in all, this is a wonderful toy for kids that teaches them early reading schools.
