Ice Age Continental Drift Party with New Age Mama

This weekend, my family and I celebrated the release of the Ice Age Continental Drift  DVD/Blu-ray combo with a fun pre-release party! My children invited over some of their friends and we had a day to remember. Before I tell you about the party, here is a little info on the movie:

Ice Age: Continental Drift will be releasing on special 3D and Digital Download formats, and this feature will aim to be an informative guide for parents on the advantages of utilizing these new formats with their families. We'll discuss benefits such as the stunning visuals on the 3D version, and easy viewing access on any iPad or tablet.

Sub-zero heroes Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon a high-seas adventure after their continent is set adrift.  Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they try to reunite with their herd.  In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.

Now, let me tell you about the awesome party and all the fun we had. First off, we received tons of cool party favors including ornaments, mugs, ice cube trays, washable markers, a backpack and more! As soon as our guests arrived we got things started  by handing out the gift packs.

We made chocolate chip cookies to go along with the mint flavored cocoa that came with our gift packs. As soon as that was ready, we settled in to watch the film. During the course of the movie, the kids also enjoyed coloring in their back packs with the washable markers and doing some of the fun Ice Age themed activity sheets. All through the movie they sipped the hot chocolate, and everyone loved the cool mugs that came with cute little matching spoons.

The movie was really awesome. My family has been following the series from the beginning, and I keep thinking it will be impossible for the next movie to be as good as the last one, but with Ice Age, they always manage to surprise me.  They always  throw in a few new surprises. In this installment, Manny is starting to deal with the normal teenage attitude from his daughter, Peaches. But right after she declares that she hates her overprotective father, there is a earth quake that drives them apart. Set  adrift on an ice berg that broke free along with the rest of the regular gang, Manny has to fight t get back to his family. Along the way he runs into some pirates led by a crazy gorilla who gives them the ultimatum of joining their crew or dying. Now Manny, Diego, and Sid have to fight of the pirates while trying to find their way back home.

The whole movie is great but I was excited to see poor Diego finally finding a love interest among the pirates. And of course, the crazy adventures of Scrat and his acorn are always one of the highlights. This time around, he winds up in Scratlantis. Another feature worth mentioning is that in the end credits, they match all the characters up with their human counterparts, and its  neat to see who does the voices. For kids, the names in the credits don't always mean anything, but when they saw familiar faces, like Drake and Josh, it was a real thrill for them.  All in all, this was a five star movie all round and the party was a lot of fun for everyone.
