Vexed Series One DVD Review

Featuring sharp scripts, strong performances, and an enjoyable mix of comedy and crime solving, Vexed, Series 1 debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on October 2, 2012. Toby Stephens (Jane Eyre, Die Another Day, Wired) and Lucy Punch (Doc Martin, Bad Teacher) provide a fresh approach to the police procedural as two mismatched police detectives who banter and bicker their way through London’s toughest cases. Broadcast on BBC Two in 2010 and commissioned for a second series to broadcast later in 2012, Vexed has not aired in the U.S. and is available to U.S. audiences for the first time with this DVD release ($29.99, www.AcornOnline.com).

Toby Stephens is DI Jack Armstrong, and Lucy Punch plays DI Kate Bishop. He’s lazy, disorganized, charming, and more interested in having a good time than solving crimes. She’s dedicated, efficient, determined to succeed at her new job, and worried that her marriage might be falling apart. Thrown together as partners on the London police force, the two mismatched detectives solve crimes with more luck than skill, bickering and bantering along the way.

As they hunt for a serial killer who targets lonely women, investigate the attempted murder of a cranky banker, and cope with a high-profile kidnapping, Jack and Kate learn about each other, disagree on almost everything, and discover they’re not such an odd couple after all. Featuring a sexy, attractive cast, and sprinkled with jokes and repartee, Vexed is “more comedy than drama [and] lots of fun” (The Times).

Our Thoughts

I have always been a fan of crime television. There is something about a good murder mystery that really gets your adrenaline pumping. When the show in question also features a strong female lead, its even better.  DI Kate Bishop and her partner DI Jack Armstrong provide almost as much humor as they do suspense in this fun show and they bumble through crime scenes and sometimes only solve them thanks to luck being on their side.  You'll laugh, you'll bite your nails, and you will relate to this two very human characters. With the amazing Vexed Series One on DVD, you will be getting 175 minutes of back to back action that will leave you at the edge of your seat. Just sit back and enjoy British drama at its best. I had never seen Vexed before getting this DVD set to review, but let me tell you, once I got it I was so enthralled I watched the complete set in only a few days.

If you want to get the advantage of a full set of amazing  stories that are loaded with murder and intrigue, than this is the box set for you. You can order Vexed Series One  for only $39.99 at Acorn Media.
