Guest Post by Christine Warner - Author of Two Timing the Boss

Did you know that nearly 1/3 of all office romances result in marriage?

How about almost 38% of office workers admit to dating a co-worker at least once over the course of their career, and 17% admitted to two dates?

These stats were compiled by CareerBuilder’s annual office romance survey of more than 7,000 workers nationwide in the later part of the 2011 calendar year.

The majority of these relationships—about 28% total—were between co-workers in comparable positions, but nearly 18% admitted to dating their boss. Women were more likely to date someone in a position of authority within their company at a rate of 35% to 23% of men.

In my latest release—Two Timing the Boss from The Wild Rose Press, my responsible heroine Farah Smith finds herself in the 35 percentile of women in the work place. That’s right, Farah became involved with her boss Keller Donovan. Not only her boss, but the owner of Keller Enterprises—a successful corporation that scoops up properties and defunct businesses and makes them his own in whatever way he sees fit.

How and why did she allow this to happen?

Poor Farah didn’t have a plan or even a desire at first to pursue her hunky boss, but circumstances snowballed out of control and she didn’t have the strength or courage to stop them.

In order to secure the funds needed to help her twin sister, Farah agrees to interview for a position as personal assistant to Keller Donovan. Farah’s twin talks her into upping her chances of getting the position by donning a blonde wig, stilettos and contacts so that she’ll be a clone to his past assistants—even though her office skills are top notch. Desperate to help her sister, she agrees to the plan. After all, there must be a reason all Keller’s assistants have looked so similar.

The only problem comes about when Farah meets Keller in public—minus her disguise—and the attraction she’d been keeping under wraps for her bosses erupts ten-fold in his pursuit of a mystery woman who reminds him of his assistant—the one he’d sworn wasn’t his type.

I’d like to share the blurb of Two-Timing the Boss, a sexy contemporary romance followed by a fun excerpt. Afterward I’d love it if you’d share your thoughts about office romance? Do you think it’s taboo, or an okay adventure as long as the pair involved handle it maturely?

BLURB:

To secure the funds for her twin sister's surgery, Farah Smith will need to sacrifice her values as well as alter her appearance to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt. With a blonde wig and stilettos strapped on, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants, insuring a position within his company.

The moment Farah and Keller meet, she realizes her most daunting task isn’t the job, but fighting an attraction to a man whose ruthlessness is as legendary in the bedroom as it is in the boardroom.

Disillusioned by his parent’s disastrous marriage, Keller Donovan is determined no relationship should have more than a six-month shelf life. But after he meets Farah Smith, all bets are off. Suddenly he wants more than a personal assistant and private bed warmer. Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her, despite the stranglehold she's put on his heart.

Can Farah and Keller find happiness and love over deceit and libido? Will the two embrace each other or hold fast to past history?

EXCERPT:

These damn shoes would be the death of her.  She could read the headlines now:  Penniless P.A. Falls to her Death while on Job Interview.
Almost to her destination, with no more mishaps, her confidence surfaced.  Okay, maybe mastering this heel thing wouldn’t be such a big deal.  Her steps became light, almost bouncy.  Although she sensed Keller Donovan behind her, she didn’t let it deter her feeling of success.  She stepped onto the large black and red area rug, less than ten feet from her target.  The leather chairs.
“Oh!”  Farah’s spiky heel caught on the edge of the expensive rug.  Her legs shook and she shot her arms out from her sides, circling them like a bird about to take flight.  She fought to regain balance inside the ridiculous stilts strapped to her feet.  A brawl to the death.  Over when she looked down to see the rug coming up to kiss her face.  She threw out her hands, sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, scrunching her face as she prepared for impact.
But nothing happened.  There were stars all right, and a blazing jolt of electricity shot from her toes, up her legs, through her body and exited with the small gasp which escaped her lips.  Somehow Keller Donovan had grabbed her around the waist before she met the floor.
Heat burned her cheeks.  He may have saved her body from bruises, but her ego, and whatever confidence she’d walked in with had shattered.
“Let’s not have an accident before your health benefits kick in.”  His breath
tickled her ear from behind.  Chills hugged her backbone.
His touch released an unsettling flutter in her abdomen.  She sucked in her stomach from the pressure of his strong arms wrapped around her middle, afraid to breathe.

There are few enough taboos, and office romances are inevitable, it's how they pan out in the end that really counts.

Best of luck with your novel.

I've only ever dated coworkers twice. We worked for a cruiseline. I worked in the office and they worked on the ship so we weren't in each other's face all the time. Nothing serious anyway.

Great post!

Those stats are kinda scary. I've never dated a coworker, but I imagine the ones that don't work out result in some really awkward moments.

Best of luck with your fabulous book!

Hey Christine,
Met hubby on our job, as did my son and his gf. I also have numerous friends who met their spouses at work. And a couple of them married the boss!

I had no idea the stats were so high! I worked with my husband after we were married but that likely doesn't count. Great post!
