The Genius of Design DVD Review

Have you ever looked at a beautiful building, a really cool car, or even your own desktop computer and wondered how they came up with such a unique design. From classic cars to modern day marvels, every design has a story to tell. In the Genius of Design, which will be available on DVD from Acorn Media beginning 3/29/11, you can learn the history and culture behind some of the most interesting inventions in the world. With spotlights on design giants like Braun, Ford and Apple, this five part documentary  examines the art of design as it happens from computer chips to cities.

In this documentary, you will meet historians, critics,  and legendary designers including Dieter Rams, J Mays, and Jonathan Ive.  They will reveal the thinking behind some of their most popular inventions, and you'll learn how far their influence really goes. This series was compelling and interesting from start to finish. Each episode will teach you something new and open your eyes to the genius of inventions. The series includes the following five episodes:

Episode 1: Ghosts in the Machine
Episode 2: Designs for Living
Episode 3: Blueprints of War
Episode 4: Better Living Through Chemistry
Episode 5: Objects of Desire

In addition to the full set of five episodes on two discs, the DVD box set also includes  a 12 page viewer's guide with articles on parties at the Bauhaus, changing American road signs, Ford's eco-friendly factory, and a gallery of famous design flaps.  It also comes with biographical sketches of influential designers and discussion questions. If you love a good documentary as much as I do, than this is the box set for you. You can order The Genius of Design for only $49.99 at Acorn Media.
