Our Thoughts

We spend a lot of time at our cabin, and the bugs can be awful!  Some years aren't as bad, but this summer was particularly bad.  At one boat landing, the air was absolutely thick with bugs - to set foot outside the vehicle was to put a big flashing neon sign for the bugs that said "EAT HERE!"

My Thoughts

The Little Tikes Cape Cottage Playhouse is the perfect way to keep kids entertained and encourage imaginative play.  This adorable little cottage gives children their own personal clubhouse where they can play house, pretend its a fort, or journey wherever else their imagination takes them.

Putting together the Cape Cottage much much easier than I expected. It seemed like there were a lot of pieces when we first opened the box, but they all come together fairly quickly. The only tool we needed to get the job done was a Phillips head screwdriver. Complete assembly took less than twenty minutes, and then we were ready to play.

The Cottage has tons of detail to help make it more authentic. There are two working doors, window shutters that really open and close, a mail slot, and even a spot to hold a flag. There are stickers to add to it that give it more detail, like glass for the windows and a house number. I was a little worried the stickers wouldn't hold up against the elements, but right after we set it up, we had three straight days of heavy wind and rain, and the cottage is none the worse for wear.

The whole structure is very sturdy and well made, yet still very light weight. I've moved it around several times in my backyard, and I can lift it with only one hand, but it doesn't fall apart. My older daughter is five years old and about 45 inches tall, and she can stand inside without stooping, but if she get any taller, she will have to slouch a little. I'd say this toy is perfect for kids anywhere between 2 and 6, depending on their height.

My children just loved the Little Tikes Cape Cottage Playhouse. They spend hours in there, hiding out from the rest of the world. They bring out their toys and just completely go into their own little word. They're safe inside, and it even shades them from the sun.  This is great for me because I can finally get some yard work done without interruptions. This is definitely a must-have for anyone with preschool aged children who likes to spend a lot of time outside.

My Thoughts

While I love camping, I've never actually pitched a tent before. I always left that up to the men. However, this weekend, I decided to set up this tent up in our backyard so the kids could have a little camp out.  I was worried the assembly would be beyond my limited skills, but it was remarkably easy. All the rods come pre-attached, and they're color coded, making it easy to figure out where the different rods go. They snap/slide into place easily, and like magic, the tent is up. I think it took me about fifteen minutes, but I bet a more experienced person could do it in half that time.  You can leave the top open for a nice nighttime view, or add the rain-fly to protect against sudden rain or morning dew.

Once the tent was set up, we had tons of fun inside.  It's very spacious and has a high roof. I am  5'8" and could stand straight up without my head touching the ceiling. There are also lots of little compartments for storage, and a divider for privacy. I was able to fit inside the tent with all four of my children and our Golden Retriever, and there was  lots of room to spare.

When you're ready to back up your tent, storage is easy too. It comes with a nice carry case that all the pieces fit into. The hardest part is getting the tent folded back up so that it fits, but if you fold it over a little at a time, and press out the air, it's easy to get it all packed in. The case also has wheels, making transport a breeze.

Overall, I loved the Tenaya Lake™ 6P Fast Pitch™ Cabin While I didn't test it in extreme conditions, it made it through a night of rain without getting wet inside, so we know its weather proof. It also held up under moderate winds without blowing down. Its spacious, comfortable, and kept us warm, but the quick and easy set up is definitely the best part.  This tent was a ton of fun in our backyard, but I know it will work just as well when we head out for our annual camping trip in the fall.
