The flavors are quite different from other areas of the US. Think about the difference in the landscapes across the country and it makes sense that honey bees would produce different honeys! 

Local Hive was kind enough to send two of my local area honey flavors for tasting. The Local Hive Nor Cal and the Local Hive So Cal are close in floral notes, having access to the same flowers. I do see a color variance in the two honeys with the Nor Cal being slightly darker in color. The floral notes of alfalfa, berries, citrus, clover and sage are in both flavors. The taste is similar with a smoother richness in the Nor Cal blend. Both are delicious! 

The honey is raw and unfiltered and 100% pure! It is sourced from the local hives. On the back label is a map showing the area the honey is sourced. I am curious how other regions honey compares. It would be exciting to have a honey tasting party with flavors from around the country. There are 19 regions available!

My Thoughts:

Honey is one of my favorite sweet treats and additions to my food and drinks. Not only is it good for you, but it is also a great substitute for sugar. Different types of tea with honey has always been my go to drink for energy, relaxation, as well as relief for any seasonal colds I get.  This delicious honey variety from L.R. Rice was an amazing addition to my honey collection. These are filled with trace amounts of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes. Both were pure, raw, and unfiltered, providing natural sweetness that hit the spot! 

The Local Northeast honey had a wonderful thick texture. It reminded me of the smell and taste of the honey within the adorable bear containers, but this is much better for you than processed sugar honey that many on the market brands are made of. I loved how nice and sweet this was. The Local Great Lakes variety actually reminded me of a hint of cinnamon when I tasted it. I loved the unique taste of it. Thick with a light yet flavorful taste.

Golden Blossom Honey's Quick Hearty Meal

After a long day at the office, the last thing you want to do is slave over the stove! Instead of spending your entire night cooking, why not whip up a quick hearty meal?  Golden Blossom Honey, the iconic fourth generation 100% American honey, has a flavorful and easy recipe for any night! This Skillet Seared Honey Mustard Pork Chops recipe is sure to warm up any winter night.  These deliciously tangy pork chops are the perfect robust meal for the family.

Skillet Seared Honey Mustard Pork Chops

3 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
4 (1-inch thick) boneless pork chops
1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Preheat oven to 450°.

Combine honey, vinegar and mustard in a small bowl. Dip pork chops into marinade to coat. Place on a plate and let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Heat oil in an ovenproof skillet over a high heat. Once hot (not smoking), add chops and sear for 2 minutes or until chops are well browned on the bottom. Turn meat over and place skillet in oven for about 10 minutes, until chops are no longer pink inside.  Serves: 4.

My Thoughts

Though I don't often use honey to cook with, I do use it a lot as a condiment. I love to make my own honey mustard dipping sauce, I use it in my coffee and tea, and sometimes I even spread it on my toast. When it comes to honey, Golden Blossom Honey has always been my first choice. Golden Blossom has a variety of products to choose from in glass jars and plastic bottles, but my personal favorite is the bear shaped jar.  It looks adorable on the counter and the squeeze bottle offers a convenient way to serve your guests.
