My Thoughts

This is the latest version of the 1937 classic full length animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". We all know the story pretty well. Snowwhite is the beautiful princess with the jealous stepmother who tries to kill her more than once. With a little help from a handsome prince and seven crazy dwarfs, she manages to thwart the evil queen's plans and go on to live happily ever after.

In addition to the timeless tale, the Signature collection brings us a few new bonuses that previous releases did not have. The first is the addition of the Digital HD. This set actually includes all three--a DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD.  There is also some new bonus footage including an audio interview with Walt Disney, some footage of designers who create fashion inspired by the film, a short on designing the characters, and some alternate sequences using story boards.

Overall, this is a great edition to any Disney collection. Even if you have other editions, a serious collector will want this one on their shelves.

My Thoughts

I just love WC Fields.  I grew up living with my grandparents, and I have so many fond memories of them watching his movies.  I didn't understand most of the humor back then, but I have a new appreciation for his style now.   This set includes a wide range of films that offer a type of  sarcastic wit that just doesn't exist in today's movies.  My Thoughts

Anyone who enjoys a good horror flick will love this collection of cult classics that are now available on Blu-ray. Releases range from 1979 to 1996, so you are getting a taste of three different decades. The films came out great on Blu-ray and watching them in High Definition makes seeing them again even more fantastic. Everything is so vivid, especially the gory scenes. The set includes four fantastic films:

Deep Rising - When hijackers invade a cruise ship, they find all its passengers have vanished.

The Puppet Masters - Aliens take over the minds of a small midwestern town

When A Stranger Calls - A babysitter is tormented by a crazy murderer.

Happy Birthday To Me - A new one to me! A girl who was in an accident and has memory loss keeps losing her friends to freak accidents.

I just loved this Blu-Ray set. Each movie is a 5-star film that horror fans everywhere will appreciate.  Getting them all for one low price also makes this collection a great value for the money.

In Love and War (1958), 111 min.

Three Marines take shore leave in San Francisco in Phillip Dunne’s World War II drama starring Golden Globe^® winner¹ Dana Wynter alongside Robert Wagner, Jeffrey Hunter and Bradford Dillman. Between a dysfunctional family, pregnant fiancée and wild girlfriend, each marine must choose whether to make the best of their situation or escape. 

My Thoughts

This classic war movie was originally released in 1958 and is finally coming to the small screen. The film brings to life the brotherhood of the soldiers in WW II and also the loves that helped keep these brave marines moving forward. The couples will each fight to overcome separations and one marine finds himself in the arms of a native. The film was a wonder for its time and continues to bring pleasure to a whole new generation. It's a must watch for anyone who loves the classics.

Island in the Sky (1938), 67 min.

Academy Award^®-nominated actress² Gloria Stuart plays Julie Hayes, a woman convinced the man her fiancé, Michael Fraser, Asst. D.A. (Michael Whalen) helped convict of murder is innocent of the crime. Julie postpones their wedding, and then seeks a former gangster to help save the life of the innocent man. 

My Thoughts

Originally released in 1938, this is a great classic film. It centers around a woman named Julie Hayes. Her fiance is the DA and he convicts a man of murder. Julie believes he's innocent and risks her relationship to prove it. She seeks out the help of a gangster to help prove his innocence and the two find themselves in some precarious situations. This is such a great movie. There is lots of intrigue as the mismatched pair go undercover and I just love seeing a woman stand up for what she believes in during a time when most were content to stay in the kitchen. The movie is in black and white and has that old-time, almost exaggerated form of acting (like stage acting), but that only makes this a more endearing classic film. I'm so glad it was released on DVD and I had a chance to see it! 

The Glory Brigade (1953), 81 min.

Victor Mature, Alexander Scourby and Richard Egan star in Robert D. Webb’s Golden Globe –winning film³. During the Korean War, a Greek-American Lieutenant wrongly blames the Greek troops he has volunteered to lead for the death of his own men.

 My Thoughts

Another great old film. Released in 1953, this movie is set during the Korean war. Lt. Sam joins with the Greek troops to go behind enemy lines. But they find themselves in danger when the Greeks turn tail and run, deserting them in the midst of a bloody battle.  With most of his platoon killed,the soldiers create a shaky alliance that's quickly threatened when they learn the real objective of the enemy.  Despite the fact that this film is in black and white and lacks the special effects of modern film, it depicts a realistic scene of the war. Even without the graphic scenes, you can feel the comradeship between the soldiers and the grief when they lose one of their own. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves a classic based on historical events.

 My Thoughts

In the Heat of the Night is a classic film coming to Blu-ray for the first time as part of the MGM 90th Anniversary celebration. Back in 1967, this movie won best picture and with good reason.
 Sidney Poitier is a homicide detective from Philadelphia who finds himself investigating the murder of a businessman in the deep south. The African American detective is not well received by the local sheriff or the people, which makes solving the crime a lot more complicated. Eventually the sheriff overcomes his bigotry long  enough to solve the crime.

In the Heat of the Night is a thrilling crime chase where anyone can be the killer and everyone is a suspect. But in addition to the thrills and chills, this movie also represents an important stand against bigotry in a time when it didn't often happen in film. This classic movie is one that should be in everyone's library.

 My Thoughts

A Chorus Line blu-ray was released as part of the MGM 90th Anniversary. I've never seen this film before getting the Blu-ray nor have I had the pleasure of seeing the show live on Broadway. That being said, I really enjoyed the  musical and can see why it was nominated for an Oscar back in 1985. The movie follows sixteen dancers going through a difficult audition led by a choreographer named Zach, played by Michael Douglas. You get to learn what led them to stage as Zach grills them with personal questions throughout the audition. Some of the stories will make you laugh out loud and some will move you to tears. But despite their differences, every one of the dancers is passionate about their chosen career and ready to make sacrifices to stay in the game.

The movie is filled with fun songs and a vast array of talent. It takes you behind the scenes of the struggles and drama of Broadway. There is music, laughs, and even a little love between Zach and one of the dancers. If you enjoy musicals and haven't seen this film yet, it's definitely worth watching.
