Art is a big part of my family's lives. We all play instruments, we like write stories, and we love to draw, paint and craft. There are also other accessories like wiggly eyes and chenille sticks to help decorate your monsters. Once they are completed, you can put them on stands and kids can play with them in the awesome mad scientist lab backdrop. This is the type of craft that is not only fun to create, but will provide hours off play once the crafting is done. My son loves this set and I would recommend to anyone who has a little boy this holiday season.

Tropical Traditions Lavender Deodorant Review & Giveaway

I have  been lucky enough to try out several of the products from Tropical Traditions, but this is the first time I checked out their body care line. They have many items to choose from, including lip balms, lotions, massage oils and more. I got to try out their lavender deodorant.  Like all their other items, the deodorant was not a disappointment. 

All the Tropical Traditions skincare products are made with only natural ingredients including organic virgin coconut oil, organic jojoba, and organic virgin esters. I received the Lavender Deodorant which is no different.  I love the light lavender scent. Lavender is known for its relaxing qualities, and being able to use skincare products with lavender in them is like a day at the spa. My daughter just recently started using deodorant and I wanted to find something safe for her to use. There are no harsh chemicals in this product so it works great but doesn't irritate her sensitive skin.

DiggersList Tips for Creating a Vintage Nursery (Guest Post)

The destination for this material is often the landfill — in 2009 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimated that 160 million tons of construction and building material ends up in landfills each year — but now in 31 cities across the nation, DiggersList is giving these perfectly usable materials a second life.


DiggersList is a nationwide online home improvement classified listing that connects cost-conscious homeowners with discounted new and used home improvement necessities, and allows them to post their own excess material for sale.

DiggersList Founder Matt Knox saw a pattern of waste in the building and home improvement industry — where easily re-usable items were dumped solely because there was no easy and efficient way to re-sell them. 1. I heard there is a trend towards "Vintage/Modern Nurseries".


a. The vintage part of this room is defined by vintage furniture, accessories, colors, fabrics, etc. (mostly accessories to bring life to the era and the "babiness" of a room).
b. The modern part is the "green" aspect of this room: zero-low VOC paint, neutral paint colors (to "grow" with the age of the baby, thus lowering costs, resources, and environmental impact), refurbished/reclaimed/reused furniture, and even some modern touches like a comfortable cushiony rocking/swiveling chair/recliner.

a. Chandeliers-great for girl's room to create a vintage "feel"


b. Furniture-items including rocking chairs, dresser drawers, book cases, toy/blanket chests, cribs, changing station, side tables, etc.-these items can be refurbished to coordinate with the color, style, and era of the room.
c. Hardware for furniture-you can find vintage/original/updated hardware to transform any piece of furniture.

e. Paint-zero to low VOC is the way to go in any bedroom, especially a baby room


f. Wainscoting-another simple design trick to create a vintage feel. Of course this will depend on the era you choose to make vintage.


3. Additionally, the term "vintage" is being blurred by time, so I was thinking how cool would it be to design a room circa "when the parents were babies"-late 60's and 70's-and accessorize the room with items like:
a. the parents' baby pictures/family photos during this time (i.e. grandparents when they were young holding parents when they were babies, bath pictures, baby in crib pictures, etc.)
b. the parents' baby clothes, shoes, cups, etc. for display
c. the parents' baby announcements/cards
d. any family heirloom from that era

Holiday Gift Guide - Leatherology Laptop Sleeve Review

Last week my husband's old dinosaur of a computer took its final breaths. I'm not the best when it comes to sharing my computer, so that meant it was time for a new one. We decided on a HP laptop, which the whole family is excited about.  Of course, since we got a laptop, that meant a few new accessories were needed as well. One of the first things we knew we would need was a laptop sleeve. As luck would have it, Leatherology got in touch with me about a review the same day that we got the new laptop. Of course I was thrilled to have the chance to review one their beautiful leather laptop sleeves.

When the sleeve arrived yesterday, I was in love with the company before I even saw the actual sleeve. The packaging is beautiful. It came in a lovely brown, shiny box, with a little black cord around it and "Leatherology" emblazonment across the front. The box is nice enough that you really don't have to wrap it if you're getting it as a gift. Inside the box, the sleeve was protected by a canvas bag. And when the bag was removed, it revealed the nicest laptop sleeve I have ever seen.

Is there anything better than the smell of new leather? You know you have a quality item when that scent fills your nostrils. Then when you touch it and its the kind of leather that is softer than your own skin, you're really hooked. It has a double zipper so it can open from both sides, allowing easy access to your laptop.  The interior is also leather with a soft neoprene lining and a foam flap to protect your computer. It is airport friendly and you can even have it monogrammed.   My husband was thrilled with it, and we'll be back for more when I get another laptop for myself.

I want to eat healthy. I really do. But everyday, somewhere between lunch and dinner, I start getting hungry and the snacks I pick are usually anything but good for me.
