Paint Your Own Pottery at Home Kits

Check out the super cute new kits from Pottery Awesomeness! These are the perfect project for kids and families to enjoy together. With themed-subscription boxes, like Halloween, Sweet Tooth, Sports Fanatic and more, kids will be excited to receive these boxes that come with everything they need to create their masterpiece! Each box includes three cute figurines, acrylic paint, paint brushes, a glossy sealer and an instruction card with QR codes that will direct painters to painting tutorials and instructions. For every kit purchased, Pottery Awesomeness donates a painting kit to sick children in hospitals. They work directly with the lead art therapist at each hospital to determine what supplies are needed.

My Thoughts

I loved these! My kids thought they were amazing. We love doing crafts like this. Perfect gift for grandparents or parents alike. It included a good color selection. You can also add your own acrylic colors if you want more, or mix the colors to make your own. I learned how to make brown doing this project lol. It didn’t look like a lot of paint, but it was more than enough. This kit is of good quality and a great value. It also comes with directions, and a glaze to seal them with when you are done. This is one of those wonderful zen like projects where I can turn off my brain and relax. it is like mediation for me. I am actually going to put these up with the Halloween decorations and save them for next year as well.

The only fault I have with it is that the brushes are tiny. For the pumpkin I used the larger one that they have you for the glaze and went and got a second one from my own collection to apply the glaze with. The kids helped me with the pumpkin. There are tons of boxes to choose. They have standard packages where you can order one box, monthly subscriptions, and party packs. If you wanted to have a home pottery painting party for a birthday, these are perfect. They are completely customizable as well. You can do simple packs or pick out all decorations and themes. They are a party in a box. Super cute.

Diamond Art the Amazing New Craft

Seeing your child’s inner artist come out is so special as a parent. But with computer and phone screens everywhere you look it can be difficult to pull your kid away from their devices, especially when kids tire of coloring and painting as they age.

Lucky for us parents, diamond painting is the new creative hobby that’s taking the arts and crafts world by storm. If you’re interested, I’d love to send you a Diamond Art Kit for review for inclusion in a gift guide or roundup.

Diamond Art Kits are the perfect gift for the crafty kids in your life. As they place the diamonds one-by-one, the hours fly by as they channel their creativity into a stunning finished masterpiece.

With designs ranging from movie characters, to nature scenes to portraits, there are hundreds of beautiful templates to work off of.
My Thoughts

This is amazing as it sounds. So relaxing and zen like. I am a very neurotic person that overthinks and worries about everything. I love things that make me zone out and I don't think about anything for awhile. Things like painting, puzzles, projects all are like therapy for me. This is definitely a fun project to put into that category now. When you unbox it you get ALL of diamonds in little individually wrapped packages with a number letter combo. Beautiful brightly colored jewels in tons of shades. I definitely recommend when you unwrap the canvas for the project that you put it on a table flat and put some heavy books to flatten it out. It is a little creased from being rolled up in the box.  It is definitely nice, soft canvas material. No paper here. Feels like good quality.
You can see a watermarked copy of your image in the background and you can see all the symbols and letters of the coordinating jewel that is supposed to go there. There is a symbol chart on the side of the canvas so you can match up the symbol with the jewel. It also has a protective plastic covering. I recommend only peeling that back for the section you are working on so you can recover it easily. I don't know if you are like me but I have so much dog hair in my house that I can be gone for two weeks and find it on myself before I even come back. Work from the edges into the middle. It comes with an applicator, wax pad, diamond tray, an applicator grip, some plastic baggies if you don't finish a color gem before you call it for the night. Pour some, not all, of the jewels into the tray. Trust me, if these suckers spill, you are going to be sorry. You take the little heart wax pad and dip your applicator into it. Than pick up a gem so the flat side is down and press it onto all of the coordinating symbols. You can do as much or as little as you want. Then whatever you do not finish you can pour into one of the baggies for the next time. Do one color at a time. There is only one tray and only a few baggies included. You don't want to try and do multiple colors or start a new one before you finish. Overall, this is good for teens, older kids, or adults. Crafters all over the world will love this, and you are left with a really fun project when you are done.

$19.99 US · $25.99 CAN · 128 pages · Hardcover
ISBN: 9781631065880
Rock Point, an imprint of The Quarto Group

Celestial Watercolor takes visionary artists on a dreamlike journey – complete with an overview of the tools and techniques of watercolor painting, this instructional guide will teach you how to paint the beautiful night sky throughout the seasons and introduce the signs of astrology.

The zodiac has been used for a millennia to bridge the gap between the mysteries of the universe and mankind’s understanding of the world. Travel to the heavens with this collection of ethereal artwork and let your passion for creativity soar while learning about legends and myths of the night sky.

Featuring instructions on how to illustrate the constellations through the yearly cycle of four seasons, Celestial Watercolor also includes exquisitely detailed information about sun and moon signs, simple directions on how to paint the 12 moons from the Native American and spiritual traditions, and easy-to-follow steps for using the correct watercolor wash techniques. With this book, every aspiring artist and imaginative dreamer will have the opportunity to use elements of the environment, such as trees, lakes, and mountains, to design each painting with their own personal style and flair.

The topics of astronomy and natural history gave artist Elise Mahan the inspiration to begin creating open-ended mixed media art projects, from which she can educate children of all ages.  She believes every painting provides a chance for artists to draw upon ethereal elements that explore texture and pattern.

Co-author and professional writer D.R. McElroy has a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture as well as a Master of Science in Environmental Resources. She has been pursuing work in the field of English for ten years and now lives in Michigan.

 My Thoughts:

Two of my favorite interests are wrapped up into this book by Elise Mahan and D.R McElroy, constellations and watercolor! As an art teacher, I knew I needed to add this book into my collection. Firstly, the art is so incredible. Gorgeous soft colors that just jump off of the page with every turn. It's relaxing to look at. I loved the information shared about each astrological sign, moon phases, along with the constellation shapes. It is perfect for anyone that is interested in learning more about the zodiac or an avid reader on all things astrology.

My favorite part though was certainly the projects. Each step was easy to understand and produced a beautiful outcome. They share the ideal colors to make to match their project, something I have not seen in other books I've had. It also shared the types of tools you may need to produce it.

Ultimately, this is a wonderful book that I highly recommend for any artist in your life and/or anyone you know interested in the constellations and moon phases. This book is going to be in my collection for a long time for my own projects and for my students.

Our Thoughts
Wow! That's what I thought when I opened the package from SuperCool Art! I was actually a little overwhelmed with the package just because I was expecting something smaller like a color book page-sized stencil.

The stencil itself is about 20" by 30". The canvas comes in separate pieces, the canvas and the four sides of the wood frame. The frame is very simple to put together as it's grooved so that you can just tap it together with a rubber mallet. The canvas is easily stretched over the frame so you can staple it. The most work in assembling the canvas is really figuring out how you want to get the corners folded so they look neat and tidy!

My Canvas
I love that the stencil is made from a highly durable plastic and can be kept even when the initial project is done. The only thing that I had an issue with on the stencil is that there were a couple of the items that I had to use an exacto  knife to cut the designs out because the plastic was tough to punch out. Once I was able to get the designs punched out it was time to design my canvas.

The paints and brushes that came with the set were awesome! They were of good quality and something that I would've picked out in the craft store for a project like this. The set came with white, red, blue, purple, yellow and black paints. The paints are big enough that the kids can experiment with mixing colors and make multiple canvases! It's definitely something that is educational when you sit down with the kids!

I'm including the picture of the canvas that I painted from the stencil that was sent. I did use other paints on the canvas that I had at home and the lettering is done from stencils that I already had.  For this, I painted once the kids had gone to bed because I wanted to experience the item before they did so I knew what to help them with going into the project. I loved that everything was just really simple. The only thing that I might have to help the kids with is tracing the stencils. (You wouldn't have to trace the stencils but in order to preserve them I prefer to trace instead of just painting over the plastic.)  I really can't wait for an evening or a Saturday when I can really sit with the kids and get them to create their own canvases.
