THE CRY DVD from Acorn

Acorn features the DVD debut of the British psychological thriller and Sundance Now Original Series THE CRY on January 7, 2020. Based on the novel of the same name by Helen Fitzgerald, The Cry stars Jenna Coleman (Victoria, Doctor Who) as Joanna Lyndsay, a schoolteacher whose four-month old baby disappears while she and her fiancé (Ewen Leslie, Top of the Lake, Janet King) are visiting family in Australia. Nominated for an International Emmy for Best Actress (Jenna Coleman), this small-town mystery is akin to the likes of Broadchurch. Now featured in a 2-Disc DVD set, this four-part series previously premiered exclusively on Sundance Now, AMC Networks’ premiere streaming service for engrossing true crime, heart-stopping dramas and fiercely intelligent thrillers from around the world.
The Cry chronicles the collapse of a marriage in the aftermath of a tragedy and explore the myths and truths of motherhood. The abduction of a baby from a small coastal town in Australia is the catalyst for a journey into the disintegrating psychology of a young woman as she and her husband deal with an unthinkable tragedy, under both the white light of public scrutiny and in their private lives.
Also starring Asher Keddie (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Alex Dimitriades (The Slap), Sophie Kennedy Clark (Philomena), and Markella Kavenagh (Picnic at Hanging Rock).

My Thoughts

The Cry is a psychological thriller set in Australia. While visiting family, a young couple discover their infant is stolen right out from under them. While consumed with grief, a young mother must deal with the judgement of the public as the mystery unfolds. The mini series is broken down into four thrilling episodes.

1- Joanna is struggling with the difficulties of motherhood and things go from bad to worse when her baby is kidnapped.

2- Alistair's ex becomes a suspect but it seems there may be more to the story between the former spouses.

3 - The more her relationship with her lover falls apart, the more truth is revealed. Joanna realizes she may not be able to trust the father of her child.

4- The investigation ends and the couple head home, but there is still trouble with the media and in Joanna's personal life.

This is a really great mini-series filled with thrills and a shocking ending that leaves us wanting more. Jenna Coleman gives a stellar performance as the tortured young mother. It's so amazing, it was even nominated for an International Emmy. If you want to grab a copy of this exciting DVD, you can find it in stores nationwide or online at Acorn Media or Amazon.
