The Resident, The: Season 1

Starring Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife), The Resident is a powerful new medical drama that focuses on the final years of a young doctor’s training and rips back the curtain to reveal both the good and the bad in hospitals across the country.

My Thoughts

The Resident was one of my favorite new televisions shows from 2018. The series centers about Conrad, a medical resident who has served our country and who wants to make a difference. His father is rich, but he doesn't care about money. His primary concern is always to help people. Many of the other doctors at the hospital feel the same, but the higher ups are always looking for profits which gets Conrad and his friends into trouble.

The main plot in the first season centered around an oncologist, Lane Hunter, who Conrad had admired. His girlfriend Nicki becomes suspicious that  Lane is using cancer patients to line her pockets by dosing them with too much chemo. When one of Nicki's patients dies, she takes the fall, but doesn't give up the investigation. Conrad is forced to chose between his girlfriend and his mentor.

In addition to that story line, there are several other sub-stories taking place. Mina, the serious surgeon, gets involved with a really sweet teacher with a heart condition. Randolph Bell, the chief surgeon later turned CEO is battling a condition that makes his hands shake and puts lives at risk.  There's even one episode where one of the residents plummets through a skylight and lands on the table at a board meeting, forcing their co-workers to rush to save their life.  Plus, there are always touching patient stories in every episode.

I really enjoyed this series and was  happy to see it take off. I've already watched the first few episodes of Season 2. Expect some steamy shower scenes and a new hospital plots. If you haven't seen the show yet, this DVD set is a great way to get caught up. Anyone who is a fan of medical drama is going to enjoy this series.
