The Magical Legend of the Leprechaun on DVD from Mill Creek

The Magical Legend of the Leprechaun

In a land of myth and magic, a wondrous legend is about to come true!

Welcome to the end of the rainbow, where love, fortune and fantasy await the lucky! Spectacular special effects, a star-studded international cast, and a story as timeless as the Emerald Isle itself combine to create a fantastical tale that will touch hearts and dazzle the imagination! The adventure begins as American Jack Woods (Randy Quaid) finds himself far from home in a quaint Irish village where he reluctantly befriends a ragtag group of leprechauns. When a forbidden love affair ignites an ancient war between the leprechauns and the trooping fairies, The Grand Banshee (Whoopi Goldberg) warns of impending doom. Jack is appointed to restore harmony...but will peace prevail before the unthinkable happens? With superb performances by Colm Meaney, Kieran Culkin and Roger Daltrey, The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns is a flight of fancy that will weave a touch of mischief and magic into the lives of all who share it!

My Thoughts

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns puts a fantasy spin on Romeo and Juliet. In the world of fairy, leprechauns and trooping fairies don't mix. When the leprechauns sneak into a party, it could cause trouble, and it does. One of the leprechauns falls in love with a fairy. Their families would rather go to war than see the couple together. Even when the banshee strips them of their immorality, they would rather take their lives then be apart. Only an American named Jack can save the fairy world from destruction.

This is one of my favorite fantasy films, and it had to be told in a mini series to be effective. The world of the fairies and leprechauns are both beautiful and magical. Whoopi Goldberg shines as the Grand Banshee. There is humor laced throughout, along with romance for fairies and humans alike. Anyone who enjoys a good fantasy film will love this mini series.
