Based on Åsa Larsson’s award-winning crime novels, these haunting adaptations feature sharp writing, complex characters, and searing performances. Ida Engvoll (The Bridge) stars as Rebecka Martinsson, an unconventional lawyer in Stockholm with a successful career and a handsome boyfriend. When a childhood friend suddenly dies, Rebecka returns to her remote hometown above the Arctic Circle for the funeral. Although the death had been ruled an accident, Rebecka finds evidence of murder and contacts her friend in the police force, Anna Maria Mella (Eva Melander). Together they hunt for a killer, but what they uncover might shake Rebecka to her core. With more cases to solve, and Rebecka proving herself an asset to Mella’s police team, Rebecka must decide whether to go back to her big-city life in Stockholm or stay in Kiruna and confront her past.

My Thoughts
Rebecka is a successful lawyer returns to her home town after a childhood friend dies suddenly. She suspects something sinister and convinces a local cop to start looking into it. The series includes eight episodes.
1- When Rebecka finds a folder of hate mail, she's convinced her friend's death wasn't an accident.
2- Rebecka is suspicious of a vicarage and the hunting society. Her boyfriend and law firm are getting annoyed with her extended vacation.
3- After a terrifying confrontation with a killer, Rebecka decides to take a job in Kiruna. Mella asks her to help when a women is found dead in a ice-fishing trailer.
4- Rebecka gets fired for her methods, but gets put back on the case after a surprising revelation about a mining owner.
5- A body is found under the water, but they find water in her lungs that doesn't match the river.
6- Another body is found and it could be connected to an old Nazi plane. Rebecka is forgetting her old beau as she gets closer to the dog handler.
7- Rebecka is about to move back to Stockholm when a butchered body is found. The only witness is the victim's grandchild.
8- Rebecka resigns, but still works on the case which involves someone being eaten by a bear and a murder weapon found in the lover's barn.
This is another great addition to my Acorn library. It features a strong female lead who stands up for what she believes in. It's a great series, and I hope to see more of Rebecka in the future. You can buy a copy for yourself online at Acorn Media or on Amazon.
