800 Words, Season 2, Part 1

Acorn TV’s heartwarming Aussie-Kiwi dramedy 800 Words, Season 2, Part 1 makes its DVD debut on April 18, 2017 from Acorn, an RLJ Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. After its breakout success and #1 ranking in Australia, a second season with twice as many episodes was commissioned to air in two installments. The first eight episodes (Part 1) continue the saga of George Turner (Erik ThomsonPacked to the Rafters, The Code), a man looking to make a new home for himself and his family, in a strangely beautiful and quirky New Zealand coastal town. The series has received Logie Awards for Best Actor for Erik Thomson and Most Outstanding Newcomer for Melinda Vidler as George’s daughter Shay. This 2-disc DVD set features 8 episodes ($49.99, AcornOnline.com). 800 Words made its U.S. premiere in January 2017 on Acorn TV, the premier North American streaming service for world-class television from Britain and beyond.

After relocating from the whirlwind of Sydney, newspaper columnist George Turner (Thomson) is slowly learning what it means to be a local in the quirky New Zealand town of Weld. He wanted his kids, Shay (Vidler) and Arlo (Benson Jack Anthony), to have a fresh start after the death of his wife, but all did not go according to plan. Now George must reunite his family by bringing Shay home from her self-appointed exile in Australia.

And if George is to become a fully functioning town resident, he must actually start anew – including finding a job with a steady income and revamping his love life. With the many attractive, eligible women living in Weld, who will receive George’s affections?

Hailed as “the best show you’re not watching” (Inquisitr.com), this sweet, refreshing family drama also stars Rick Donald (A Place to Call Home), Bridie Carter (McLeod’s Daughters), Emma Leonard (Home And Away), and Michelle Langstone (The Almighty Johnsons).

My Thoughts

800 Words is a cute comedy about a widower who decides to move his family to a little coastal town. But his new beginning doesn't go quite as smoothly as he planned. The quirky locals can't keep to themselves and George and his kids find themselves the center of attention, This season has eight delightful episodes:

1-George & Ario want to bring Shay back from Syndey while the locals get ready for Guy Fawkes Night..

2- Everyone comes out to say goodbye to Jan, and George gets into an argument with Woody.

3- George gets a big scoop, but is told he can't write about it.

4-  George gets another chance to buy his dream house just when he feels overwhelmed by teens.

5-  George goes on a date with Katie and the constable is troubled by the freedom campers.

6 -  George fights for stricker laws after a local is injured by a jet ski.

7-  George is headed to Sydney while Laura faces an unhappy anniversary.

8 - George joins the cricket team and Arlo and Emma get serious.

This series will make you laugh at times and get emotional at times. The relationship between George and his kids has it's challenges, but it's also touching. Living in a small coastal town myself, I could definitely relate to the quirky locals. If you'd like to grab a copy of this DVD set, it is available online at Acorn Media and online at Amazon.
