DVD Review: Dominion Creek

Marking the first Western to be made in Ireland, this new epic, character driven 4-part miniseries starsOwen McDonnell (Single Handed), Seán T.Ó Meallaigh (Charlie, Patrick, Kings), and Dara Devaney (Above Suspicion: Silent Scream, Camelot) as the Connolly brothers; three Irish emigrants seeking riches in the American Gold Rush. The storylines and characters draw from historical accounts and are inspired by real life tales of people who experienced the Klondike Gold Rush in the 1890’s. Premiered on Acorn TV in Jan. 2016.

My Thoughts

This is a great mini-series that gives us a look at life on the Yukon during the Gold Rush. The story is told through the eyes of three Irish brothers named Seamus, Padraig, and Tom Connolly. They strike gold on their claim, but money can tear apart even the closest families. They fight among themselves, but quickly learn they will need to stick together to survive.  The series is broken down into four episodes.

1 - In August 1897, the Connolly brothers head to the Yukon to find their fortune using a coded map. They make some friends but also a few enemies (especially the Hopkins) and before too long violence breaks out.

2- In September of 1897,  the tension between the Connollys and the Hopkins reaches a boiling point.  Seamus falls in love with the wrong girl.

3 - We skip ahead to March 1898 - The brothers find gold and start to turn on each other. Meanwhile, Kate has a big secret.

4- The brothers grow further apart, and a big disaster forces Seamus away from his Irish clan.  A thrilling conclusion where not everyone will survive.

This is a excellent series for anyone who is a fan of Westerns! I was really impressed with the costume and backdrops. It had a very realistic feel to it. The cast all did a wonderful job as well. It you want to check out this great historical drama for yourself, be sure to grab a copy on Acorn Media or on Amazon.
