Savory Nutrition Bars for Med Diet Month

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Council that helps shape the country’s official dietary guidelines, recently suggested that Americans follow a Mediterranean-style diet. The Mediterranean Diet has been studied and noted by scores of leading scientists as one of the healthiest lifestyles in the world.

May is Mediterranean Diet Month, where retailers, health professionals, chefs and the media discuss the benefits and offer suggestions on how to follow this type of lifestyle. The Mediterranean Diet emphasizes eating more whole grains, fruits, greens and healthy fats, and less meat and sweets.  To make it easier to follow the lifestyle while on-the-go, Mediterra recently launched their new line of nutrition bars,  the first bars that adhere to Mediterranean Diet philosophy and also fall well within the new dietary guidelines.

Featuring the first truly savory-flavored bars, Mediterra bars are loaded with fiber, nutrients and vitamins instead of complex sugars and saturated fats. Mediterra bars also feature ingredients native to the Mediterranean region including sesame seeds, sundried tomatoes, capers, walnuts, black olives and Greek honey. The bars are all-natural, non-GMO and Gluten-Free. The MSRP is $1.99.

The six bars come in three specific varieties with two flavors to choose from in each category:

The First Ever “Savory Bars:” The bars are rich in vegetable content, but low in calories, sodium and sugar and contain protein-rich pea crisps and a touch of olive oil. Each Savory Bar is 1.4 ounces and contains six grams of protein and fiber. They are certified kosher and dairy free. My Thoughts

Sometimes, you have a craving for a tasty snack bar, but you don't want sometime too sweet. Mediterranean Nutrition bars are a  satisfying snack you can enjoy any time at all.  Their savory flavors are completely unique. I was able to test out six different varieties, and they were all delicious. Here's a little about each one.

Orange & Honey - This one is sweet, but not unbearable sweet.  The combo of honey and orange blends perfectly, and it doesn't even leave your fingers feeling sticky.

Pistachio & Honey - Nuts and honey are the perfect combo. The sesame seeds brings it all together for the perfect treat.

Black Olives & Walnuts - This was one of my favorite. It reminded me of a fancy bread stick from an Italian restaurant. The savory flavor was a really nice switch from the norm.

Sundried Tomato and Basil -  Another savory combo that makes me feel like I'm getting a yummy salad in a quick and convenient bar.

Cherry & Pistachio - My husband stole these because cherries and pistachios are two of his favorite things. He said they were fantastic and especially loved the way the yogurt and oats brought it all together.

Apricot & Pistachio - I'm not even a big fan of apricots, but these  still tasted great. Getting both nuts and fruit in one package is a great way to help maintain a balanced diet.

I was super impressed with the Mediterranean Nutrition Bars. For me, they were satisfying enough to fill me up for lunch, but they also make a great after school snack. My children enjoyed them just as much as I did.
