Holiday Gift Guide - New VTech Leaning Cartridges

If you have a Innotab Learning Tablet, can extend the play value of their VTech toys by purchasing new Learning Cartridges, giving greater value to the tablet and allowing it to grow more with your child’s abilities. A wide range of educational cartridges are available, offering age-appropriate games, e-Books and more that allow children to progressively learn key subjects such as math, reading and science in steady stages. Interactive e-Books teach reading and vocabulary, while creative activities and camera fun inspire children’s imaginations. Children can learn as they play with their favorite characters from Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monsters University and more!   The cartridges are compatible with all current InnoTab models and will also work with new models that will be released later this year, including the InnoTab MAX (www.vtechkids.com/ITMax), VTech’s fastest Wi-Fi tablet yet and its first to feature Android™ learning content. They are also a great way to stuff those stockings this holiday season.  Here are a few of the newest games and my thoughts on them.

My Thoughts

The My First Nursery Rhymes cartridge is great for babies and toddlers. It introduces them to many classic nursery rhymes, songs, and more. You are also led through the games by Cora and Cody, an adorable pair of puppies.  There are five different sections to choose from once your cartridge is loaded.  Song Selection lets you pick from 25 songs complete with adorable illustrations.  Kid's Songs has familiar songs kids will know, like This Old Man and the Farmer in the Dell. Cody and Cora will also ask questions to encourage cognitive thinking.   Lullaby Songs allows you to loop your child's favorite bedtime song to help them drift to sleep.  Avatar becomes more hands on and lets kids add pictures and edit them.  Finally, Baby Signs teaches kids a few words of sign language, including please and thank you. Overall, this is a great way to introduce kids to the Innotab and start them off on the path of educational gaming.

InnoTab Disney Winnie the Pooh Learning Cartridge
Amazon               VTechKids
(Ages 12-36 months; MSRP: $24.99)

·         Winnie the Pooh is always hungry for honey in Winnie the Pooh for VTech's InnoTab Learning Tablets. Help him find his honeypot and learn shapes, colors, opposites and more along the way. Includes fun songs and baby sign language with Roo and Piglet!
·         This InnoTab Learning Cartridge features an e-Book about Pooh and his great day bouncing with Tigger and friends, four sing-along songs with familiar melodies about Winnie the Pooh and friends, and a Music Box plays four sing-along songs in a loop for up to 30 minutes.

My Thoughts

My son just loved this game. Winnie the Pooh is one of his favorite characters and seeing him on the screen helped hold his attention.  This game has tons of great features including read along, sing along, play along, and baby signs.  The read along allows you to choose between reading the story yourself or having it read to you. Play along has games that teach kids colors, shapes, and opposites.  Choose from activities like hunting for honey or searching for Eeyore's tail.  With sing along, you can listen to songs or have the lyrics displayed so you can sing along. Finally,  Baby Signs teaches children some common sign language including words like eat, help and more.

For parents there are a few extra perks. You can take pictures with you child and make collages or  create a music box with some of your favorite songs that will play for 30 minutes to help lull them to sleep. All in all, this is a great game with lots of educational value that toddlers and preschoolers will love.

InnoTab Classic Stories Learning Cartridge
Amazon               VTechKids
(Ages 3-6; MSRP: $24.99)
·         In Classic Stories for VTech’s InnoTab Learning Tablets, children can read three classic stories: The Frog Prince, Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs, each with three different reading levels.
·         This InnoTab Learning Cartridge includes three learning games which introduce writing, rhyming, phonics, reading comprehension and more.

My Thoughts

Classic Stories is a great way to get kids into reading. There are three different reading levels, so its a game that grows along with your child. There are six different games/stories included on the cartridge. Pinocchio, The Frog Prince, and The Three Little Pigs are eBooks that kids can read independently or have read to them. At the end of the story there are questions to help them learn reading comprehension. Then there are some games that go along with the stories. Write with Pinocchio is a great way to practice writing your letters. Help the Princess uses phonics to lead you on a scavenger hunt. Finally, Rhyme Builder teaches rhymes while you help the third pig build his house of brinks. My daughter is four and she had a lot of fun with this game and it has helped improve her reading skills.
