Watch TV on the Go with DISH Anywhere

Responding to growing consumer demand to watch favorite content on mobile devices, DISH (NASDAQ: DISH) is readying an upgrade to its DISH Anywhereapp that incorporates Transfers functionality to both iOS and Android phones and tablets. Using the new DISH Anywhere app, Hopper™ with Sling® users will soon be able to transfer their favorite shows for offline viewing to iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets. This enhancement will be pushed as an update to the free DISH Anywhere app by the end of the year.

Currently, DISH offers two different apps for remote viewing, DISH Anywhere and Hopper Transfers. DISH Anywhere is used when connected to the Internet for remote viewing of live TV programs or recorded events and is available on most Internet-connected devices including iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets.

Hopper Transfers is the second DISH app for remote viewing. It is used to move recorded programs from a Hopper with Sling to mobile devices for watching programs when an Internet connection is unavailable. This app and capability is currently only available for iPads.

TWO MOBILITY APPS BECOME ONE
By the end of the year, both convenient features, Internet viewing and transfers, will be available within the new DISH Anywhere app and will work with both iOS and Android mobile devices.
“Responding to subscribers who want an even easier way to fully utilize the capabilities of the Hopper with Sling, today, we’re announcing an overhaul of the DISH Anywhere app,” said Vivek Khemka, senior vice president, product management at DISH. “By year’s end, Hopper with Sling users will be able to remotely watch live and recorded shows and transfer recorded programs to their iOS and Android devices, all within the new DISH Anywhere app.”

 My Thoughts

It's amazing how many cool features are available with DISH services. One of the things my family has been experimenting with is DISH Anywhere. This allows you to to have shows transferred from your DVR onto a tablet without internet connection. Basically, any show you record can be watched on the go. This is a great option for parents. When I take my older kids to sports practice, the two younger ones are often stuck in the car for an hour, especially this time of year when its getting too chilly to play outside. With DISH Anywhere, I can record all their favorite shows like Sesame Street or Dora the Explorer and watch them anywhere or anyplace I want. No wireless connection? Since it's already saved onto your device,  it doesn't matter. Once the show is recorded you can watch it even without any connection.

Setting up DISH Anywhere is easy. You just need to log onto the DISH website and download the app. Once that's on your device,  the step by step instructions are simple to follow and you can be streaming your favorite shows in minutes. Some of the features include:

  • Addition of ‘Transfers’ functionality to DISH Anywhere speeds access of favorite content on mobile devices
  • Watch transferred content even when no Internet connection is available
  • Easily watch live TV and DVR recordings from Hopper with Sling on tablets, smartphones, and computers

My  kids also love using the DISH Anywhere on their iPads. On those, they do need an internet connection, but its actually available in most places we go, so it hasn't been a problem. My son was watching Sponge Bob while we waited at the dentist office the other day. If you're worried your kids might be watching shows you don't approve of when they're away from home, you can rest at ease. If anyone is using your DISH account, you can view what shows are being watched from any outlet. Definitely a great feature for parents.
